There are days.... I know guns are not popular BUT
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 12:07 AM by nadinbrzezinski
this ignorance is astounding

The gun that Booth used had a SLOW muzzle velocity to start with

Bullets don't have a slow speed as they leave the muzzle and then they pick up speed.

GOD... there are days

Oh and what they decribed is clasic Cheyne Stokes respiration...

Oh History Channel... the program on Lincoln

1. I want the tech specs on that bullet that picks up speed.
Give me that, I'll rule the world and make you Prime Minister.

4. I guess a gyrojet driven bullet...
(FYI they were toyed with in the 1960s)

6. MBA Gyrojet pistol
The Gyrojet is a family of unique firearms developed in the 1960s named for the method of gyroscopically stabilizing its projectiles. Firing small rockets rather than inert bullets, they had little recoil and didn't require a heavy barrel to resist the pressure of the combustion gases. Velocity on leaving the tube was very low, but increased to around 1,250 feet per second (380 m/s) at 30 feet (9.1 m). The result was a very lightweight weapon with excellent ballistics.

7. Um.... exactly what is the additional force that's providing this post-firing acceleration?
Or does Newton2 not apply to guns?

9. I guess the bullet was a gyrojet round!
Oh never mind they didn't come around until the 1960s

Oh and did not make it beyond experimentation (as far as we know), or sci fi

this is poor education

Reminds me of play testing years ago, where the designers had no clue of the difference of a 50 caliber short and a Browning 50 cal

On the plus side people are that ignorant

On the down side... you are going... heard of Newton? I mean basic physics.

:-)

8. Well, you see...
...the bullet is actually a tiny ramjet. It's like a hollowpoint except that the air passes through the entire interior of the bullet due to a tapered hole through the longitudinal axis. The air enters the hollowpoint and is compressed by funnel-like tapered hole until it reaches combustion tempurature and pressure. Then the oxygen reacts with the lead, creating a rocket-like effect that accelerates the bullet in excess of 40 gs until at about mach 5 or so when aerodynamic stresses cause explosive fragmentation.

That's why those .50 BMGs can shoot down airliners... they hit about mach 10 and 40,000 feet before they explose with the force of a stick of dynamite.

Honnest!!!!111! Swarez to Gawd!!11!1!

Just ask gunguys.com...

15. I do, gaming fiction
www.deistgames.com

Right now working on the novel (and a supplement)

Did a demo this weekend at a gaming convention

Oh and huge econ observation... the place was emptier than usual and some of the folks I knew were libertarians, were ahem preaching on how we needed the Stimulus packet

People also didn't spend much money either

Oh and as to bullshit idea... you'd be amazed at some of the BS weapons in gaming fiction

:-)

I am just trying to get a decent rate to refinance with.
