you were in her position?

If she takes the 5th is that the end of it? She just walks away?

7. If only this was related to the WOT, we could send her to GITMO.
That is, as long as the DoD keeps Gates from closing it, which might happen if 'Pubs get sent.

10. How scary is Arlen Specter?
"We have to have an attorney general who is candid, truthful. And if we find out he has not been candid and truthful, that's a very compelling reason for him not to stay on," said Specter, R-Pa.

Does that make any sense whatsoever, to anyone who isn't a complete fucking idiot?

11. Check out this paragraph.
"The potential for legal jeopardy for Ms. Goodling from even her most truthful and accurate testimony under these circumstances is very real," said the lawyer, John Dowd.

So it would appear that her attorney believes that the facts would put her in legal jeopardy. That says a lot.

The 'crimes' are of a magnitude of order different.

19. And the Republican talking heads still say there was no illegal activity here
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 04:00 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
They say it was a legitimate power of the President to replace US Attorneys as a political move every President makes.

Well, now the specter of crimes possibly having been committed and the need to insulate themselves from having to testify about them raises its ugly head. This is no longer about politics as usual. It's about criminal activity.

Whether her attorney is telling us in advance that his client won't testify, we need to get Ms. Goodling on the record, in front of Congress, pleading the 5th Amendment for all America to see. After that, I think you will see a sobering up of the rabid right wing talking heads who say there's nothing to this latest scandal.

20. They can offer her immunity. Then she will have to testify.
If they're not out to get her, they can offer her immunity from prosecution for anything they ask her about. Then she won't be able to claim Fifth Ammendment protection from self-incrimination and will have to testify. If she still refuses to testify, then she can be jailed for Contempt of Congress, a phrase that has more than one meaning, they will find....

This sort of thing went on a lot and required some care back in the Watergate days, when there were simultaneous legal and congressional procedings.

22. Indeed, that may be their strategy --
By letting the investigators know ahead of time that Ms. Goodling intends to plead the fifth, her attorneys may be signalling that she has valuable testimony that she is willing to give, but her price is immunity from prosecution.

And if that is indeed the case, she (or her attorneys) may grasp how serious is the shit she's in if she doesn't cooperate.

25. I hope you are right!!! These people who are down the food chain a little bit,
and out of the public eye, still know where ALL the bodies are buried and can do a LOT of damage to these criminals.
