OMG! According to MSNBC, construction on a Missouri bridge JUST started...
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 04:47 PM by Fleshdancer
due to the stimulus bill passing. :wow:

Norah quickly mentioned that this story just arrived on the wires. She then changed the subject to Bristol Palin. :eyes:

I'll update the bridge story as soon as I can.

UPDATE! Finally. Here's the link: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hfF6F3P1uuEsLDjE8LPDzYbpyQjAD96DIJNO0

The 1,000-foot-long bridge being replaced spans a Missouri River tributary about 30 miles southwest of the state Capitol in Jefferson City. It was built in 1933 but was closed to large trucks in 2007 because of structural concerns.

(Note from Fleshdancer: Can we start calling it the "Bridge To Somewhere"?)

6. I am?
The new handle is a funny reference to Jesus Camp. My last name will be changing soon so staying with "Gloria Smith" didn't make much sense to me.

I've been a terrible thread killer the past few week so your compliments mean a lot to me. Thank you so much blm.

4. There are billions of dollars worth of spending on
infrastructure that can be dusted off, taken off the shelf, and used to put people directly to work.

The stuff is there, and every state in the union has this spending ready to go; no studies, no fuss, nothing that requires much more than bidding or hiring, if that.

Time to do this stuff.

20. You do know Leslie is not his real name?
That was a joke started by Al Franken at a WH Correspondents Dinner early in the Clinton years. The transcript appears in his book "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot".

17. Our new Democratic governor, Jay Nixon, is on the ball
He's had these projects lined out for weeks, ready to go as soon as the money came through. Symbolically, starting out with a bridge is great, considering that the bridges in this state are really crap and starting to fall apart. There are some here in state that you utter a little prayer before crossing, though they have replaced one of the worst ones, the one across the Missouri River at Hermann, last year.

Wonder what's next, there's so much infrastructure, roads, bridges, etc. etc. it's hard to know where to prioritize, where to begin.

18. Awesome
Not only will the construction of this bridge provide people with jobs but it will also serve to expand commerce and industry within the area once the project is complete.

22. He'll probably be one of the republicans to take credit for it
even after voting against it:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/62181.html

WASHINGTON — Rep. John Mica was gushing after the House of Representatives voted Friday to pass the big stimulus plan.

"I applaud President Obama's recognition that high-speed rail should be part of America's future," the Florida Republican beamed in a press release.

Yet Mica had just joined every other GOP House member in voting against the $787.2 billion economic recovery plan.

:grr:

Pretty crazy, isn't it?
