Beyond Cholera: Zimbabwe's Worsening Crises
http://doctorswithoutborders.org/publications/article.cfm?id=3408&cat=special-report&ref=enewsletter&source=ADN090201E01

Everyday, Zimbabweans cross the Limpopo River into South Africa, risking their lives to flee their country. An estimated 3 million Zimbabweans have sought refuge in South Africa. It is Africa's most extraordinary exodus from a country not in open conflict.

The reasons for the outbreak are clear: lack of access to clean water, burst and blocked sewage systems, and uncollected refuse overflowing in the streets, all clear symptoms of the breakdown in infrastructure resulting from Zimbabwe's political and economic meltdown.

And we think we've got it bad. There is a world of suffering outside of our borders. I want to say how disturbing it is that we could have helped the world instead of giving our wealth to the wealthiest, and building bombs. I find it hard to be uplifting given the present circumstances of the world.

2. There was no helping Zimbabwe.
Mugabe looted the place until there is nothing left. Any money we sent there would go towards lining his pockets or propping him up by funding his security forces.
