MUST WATCH TV - PBS
My old TV set broke this week, so I watched it online here...

"Inside the Meltdown" on Frontline (PBS)

Until you watch this, you won't grasp fully what our nation faced last September.

Chilling, stunning, and scary.

It's going to be fucked up for a decade at least.

2. Nine minutes and counting.....guess we, like Japan, are going to experience
a loss decade. I am so pissed. I'm close to retirement age which will probably never come. Mr. Snappy and I were in recession for five years until a couple of months ago and things look a little brighter but I don't know if we will ever really be able to retire. I am pissed that the lives of my kids who are now 30 and 32 years of age won't be what I had hoped they could be. They've worked hard, and harder, and harder and have less than what their dad and I had when we were their age. Guess it's time to enjoy the small pleasures in life and quit worrying about that elusive brass ring. Maybe we'll be a better people for it.

3. Overall a good explanation
but much too sympathetic to the bankers. Just a bunch hard wor
king joes caught up in a situation beyond their control. Bullshit.

4. We are in the Second Great Depression.

I am dead sure of it now.

Next up: Worldwide gov't defaults on debt and a worldwide currency crisis.

7. I agree. Gold and the dollar moving up at the same time set off alarms for me.

Usually gold is the "anti-dollar" and the two most often have an inverse relationship. Gold and the dollar moving up at the same time indicates a extremely severe financial crisis.

5. Just finished watching it. A friend at JPMorgan says the mandatory bailout of the Big 9...
was basically a means to mask the fact that ShitiBank needed a bailout.

8. Something is bothering me about this. I think some of what PBS put in that program was fiction -
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 12:15 AM by peacetalksforall
I really don't know how to explain it, but my credibility meter was all over the place. Somehow, it seems they took what was talked about and made it the core and didn't delve any deeper than the Wash Post would have and we know that they are all about protecting Washington bigwigs.

I would like to parallel the PBS version with a documentary made my someone who was very truthful and bold.

Something isn't sitting right with me. It was way too conciliatory. It was like it all just 'happened', like it was all a surprise, like no one was to blame, like it was simply a matter of managing the surprise.

Thumbs down. Yes, thumbs down on this program by PBS. PBS is not being forthright.

When are they going to start talking about forward movement when many knew it was all wrong. When are they going to talk to people who warned us, them, the world?

I'm willing to be convinced that I'm wrong. Maybe they will have that next week.
