My continuing saga of Republican fundy conservatives in my little town...

I posted the lead up to this yesterday and I won't bore you with repeating it. Today I had the showdown. Two of these guys were invited to the meeting...they brought eight. Like the little pigs, they huffed and they puffed and threatened to blow the house down and defeat the workforce housing article that is up for a vote at town meeting. All of this because they are not getting to build it. They want the contracts but they don't want to have to compete for them. They want preference, no bid, no nothing. They are extortionists...but they go to church so they are good upstanding moral fellows. Gag me.

So, anyway...I finally said "Go ahead, defeat the article, kill the housing for your children who can't afford to live in this town...that's a guaranty that you won't get the work isn't it. So, let me get this straight, you'll kill the housing and you'll kill the jobs."

Isn't that perfectly Republican? Do these people all take the same pill?

So anyway, it's over...I have it on record thanks to good advice from DU'ers and, as my mother used to say "they can stew in their own juices" whatever that means.

1. The putzes

They've seen the results of 30 years of letting the Elephant fly above the Eagle. It's bought us a bankrupt country, widespread corruption, two ruinous wars, and loss of prestige the world over. But they just can't stop, they just can't help themselves. They will indeed kill the jobs and kill affordable housing, just so they can bitch about a lack of jobs and affordable housing.

3. I know, and the ringleader of this group gave us a lecture about

how bad off this country was. I said: "Phil, let's not get into national politics here because I will have to ask you which President got us inot this mess." No response.

The only good is that you did not spend all of your time and energy on it.
Sorry if that sounds sour grapes. Then again sour is better than spoiled. I hope.

4. I don't know. One of the Selectmen was at this meeting and told me

later that I may have shamed them and saved the project. Funny...other folks at town hall said they almost called the police because it got so loud. Actually, I'm feeling a little more optimistic after a good straight scotch! :-)

Tell 'em to go build a parking lot or something similar, but leave the REAL building to someone with more qualifications other than "Jesus will be on OUR jobsite"

8. Boy, you got that right! Thanks to some good advice here yesterday and

the fact that my back was killing me today...I love that...Jesus will be our jobsite...yup, live on Jesus, he will pay the rent. Fuck these awful people!

Now, if they get vocal, you can back up the claim that they are against it because they wanted to say how large a slice of the cake they deserved before it was even in the oven. People tend to not like when they are duped and this group is attempting to dupe them all.

Good on you and let's hope they will slink back under the rock the came from.
