For those that say "gosh this store looks so busy"
I often hear people sound surprised about just how bad consumer spending is getting when I tell them how bad sales are.

Just an interesting fact.... I pulled up the company customer count tracker on the company intranet today. The store I am at, for example, has had about 5% MORE customers than we did at this same time last year.

HOWEVER - sales for that same time period compared to last year are down about 10%.

From the numbers I checked company wide it looks like a great many stores are showing the same situation. MORE customers in the stores than last year, but sales are worse.

Lesson is that just because it seems "busy" or you see lots of people in a store doesn't necessarily mean those people are actually spending.... or spending much.
