== I Twitter for you! = By Mark Morford

Too old/busy/jaded to 'social network,' but still want to seem hip? Call now!

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2009/02/18/notes021809.DTL&nl=fix

Are you a Net neophyte? Very, very late bloomer? Profoundly paranoid about the totally CIA-monitored Interweb?

Do you still prefer to get your news and information from disposable printed matter made from poor ol' trees because you believe all high-tech gizmos are a total soul-sucking waste of time except maybe for your George Foreman grill and the old FM radio in the truck? Read on, friend.

Speaking of friends, do you have any? Do you have enough? How do you know? Are you sick of hearing about the "social networking" phenomenon, all those Web 2.0 companies with geeky-sounding names like Facebook and MySpace and Twitter and Tumblr and LookSpaceBookFeedPlaceWad, sites where 'friends' flock together like flies to cow eyelids and everyone's young and cute and funny and jacked-in to the cultural zeitgeist, but you have no idea what it all means or why you're supposed to care because you have, you know, a real life, yet you still have this nagging feeling that a potentially rich, exciting aspect of the culture is passing you by like an ice cream truck in summer?

Worry no longer, dear one. Salvation it at hand. ...

1. I think you just described me
I have to have my daughter put numbers in my phone. I joined My Space, but have never had a visitor except for the owner and a hooker. I have an old, slow computer and can't download or up load. I threw my George Foreman grill away because the teflon was starting to peel off. I do have an electric guitar though.

4. I think we first wave Boomers should start our own network , "Get Off My Lawn!".
Low tech, nothing nerdie, a place where we can ask I Can't Cope questions about computers, networking, etc without some punk  or using terms usually heard only at MIT.

(I have an 8 track gathering dust in the basement.)

2. LOL! That's great, and that's for me.
Well, actually, no it isn't, but I think it's funny as hell. I don't do the social, online Facebook, Twitter, MySpace thing, not only because it's time consuming, but I really don't feel like putting my entire personal life out there for the entire world to see.

I waste enough time here, I don't need to waste even more at social network sites. If that makes me a curmudgeonly old luddite, oh well.

3. I for one am very grateful
I wasted a lot of time in my younger days with what was available then. If there had been a 24-hour stream of time-wasting stuff like there is now, I probably would have died of Vitamin D deficiency from never going outside. There's a slim possibility I would have learned better personal time management habits, but I doubt it would have happened.

5. And the generational wars continue... With the same predictable ending.
