No criminal charges will be filed against a sixth-grade teacher who allegedly pulled the hair of a defiant girl.

The teacher, 47-year-old Kathryn Irwin, denied pulling the hair of the 14-year-old eighth-grader who reportedly ignored the teacher’s command to spit out her gum, Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Saleen said.

Prosecutors didn’t think the alleged wrongdoing by the Walter Stiern Middle School teacher was serious enough to justify the time and expense of a trial, Saleen said.

Even so, the immediate public reaction to the Feb. 5 incident was overwhelming that the teacher had no business touching the student.

3. Lower Standards?
When I was in elementary school there were always a few teachers around who were hair pullers. And I didn't go to Catholic school, either. Not saying it's right, but I'd say that standards are considerably HIGHER these days or this wouldn't even make the news. God knows, the time our 1st grade teacher hit my friend on the head with a book for not paying attention never even made the local paper. It happened frequently.
