5. Quoted in full...
Wednesday's Page Six cartoon - caricaturing Monday's police shooting of a chimpanzee in Connecticut - has created considerable controversy.

It shows two police officers standing over the chimp's body: "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill," one officer says.

It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill.

Period.

But it has been taken as something else - as a depiction of President Obama, as a thinly veiled expression of racism.

This most certainly was not its intent; to those who were offended by the image, we apologize.

However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past - and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback.

To them, no apology is due.

Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon - even as the opportunists seek to make it something else.

and pretending that it's everyone else's fault for being oversensitive.

6. And, Mr. Post, if your feelings were hurt by the suggestion that . . .
You're a scummy sack of offal whose customers should dump you in toto, I apologize for that.

It wasn't my intent to suggest that you eat shit and die, and I'm sorry if you saw it that way. I never meant to imply that your entire existance is an insult to all that is right and good, but if that bothered you, I really hope you can get over it.

But if you did actually intend to spew racist filth, you crap-eating pigdog, well, then fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

8. Good grief. What a "non"-apology. A real apology would go like this
Yesterday we ran an editorial cartoon in our paper which was inappropriate and we apologize. It was not meant to be a racist depiction but rather one that related to recent events. We now realize that it was seen in a different light and appeared to convey a racist message. For that we apologize.

18. That apology was written by the same type of people
that have been running (ruining) the country up until recently, neocon, rightwing, seldom correct about anything, manipulative types that are of the mindset that if you find yourselves in a hole of your own making, the obvious remedy is to continue digging only with a larger shovel. Oh, and lie about what it is you're actually doing for no apparent reason other than to stay in practice lying.

10. Extremely lame apology, IMO.
The overall tone does not even remotely suggest "apology."

Let's assume for the moment that the cartoon really was just an effort to "mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill." If they actually gave a shit their apology would have acknowledged that including an ape in this context was, at a minimum, insensitive and unwise, creating a huge potential for misunderstanding.

This is basically a "fuck you" dressed up as an apology.

14. Indeed it is, indeed it is.
These people aren't sorry, just sorry they got caught. This is really sickening, they're starting to whip out the seriously racist stuff. Elsewhere today, John Gibson insinuated that Eric Holder was some kind of a monkey as well.

15. Agreed. I'm going to email them protesting their "fuck you" non-apology
now, too.

It's time for us to stop accepting these types of "apologies." We're not idiots. We know an apology when we see one. And this ain't it.

And NO ONE - noone, not the cartoonist, editor, publisher, etc.,

could have any doubts about the inference of using a monkey as opposed to any other animal as the victim

This is basically a "fuck you" dressed up as an apology.

11. First, remove the so-called cartoonist/propagandist from the payroll
for a good start. Then fire the editorial board. Then hire an editorial board that adheres to credible journalism. Then, you may apoligize, you twats.

To cry that people who are after the Post are using this as an excuse to go after them...........Come on. this is not an apology at all. It is another defense and a shot at detractors of the paper.

Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 09:41 PM by Mr. Sparkle
An interesting observation of their post is not just the mean spirited manner in which it was written in, but there call to say it was not an apology to other media who saw the "incident as an opportunity for payback". I think it just shows the mentally of the people at the paper and what an bunch of low-life's they are!
