Harlyn Geronimo, on the 100th anniversary of his great-grandfather's death, has stirred up questions about whether the great Indian warrior's skull resides at the Tomb — the New Haven headquarters of Yale's most secret of societies, Skull and Bones.

Harlyn Geronimo, a 61-year-old sculptor and Vietnam veteran, filed a federal lawsuit in Washington, D.C., Tuesday seeking to claim the remains of his great-grandfather, who was buried at the Apache Prisoner of War Cemetery at Fort Sill, Okla., in 1909.

It has long been rumored that several of Yale's "Bonesmen," including, by one account, Prescott Bush, father of one Bush president and grandfather of the other, robbed Geronimo's grave and brought back his skull and femurs, and his horse's bit and saddle horn, to the Tomb.

A 1918 letter, found buried in the Yale archives by a writer three years ago, says as much, ............

8. Agreed, but first a determination has to be made, that is is authenic
vice plastic, vice from a body donated to a medical school,...

Its not clear that there is legal standing on this. Personal lawsuit in OK will not reach New Haven, other issues.

Ramsey Clark, a former United States attorney general who is representing Geronimo’s family, acknowledged he had no hard proof that the story was true. Yet he said he hoped the court would clear up the matter.

There are few legal details out, so minor matters like standing and jurisdiction are still TBD.

11. absolutely correct
Once a determination is made, I am sure this will be resolved. The question is whether the S&B will make the remains available for examination.

13. NY Times: Geronimo’s Heirs Sue Secret Yale Society Over His Skull
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/20/us/20geronimo.html?_r=1&hp

By JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr.
Published: February 19, 2009

HOUSTON — The descendants of Geronimo have sued Skull and Bones, a secret society at Yale University with ties to the Bush family, charging that its members robbed his grave in 1918 and have kept his skull in a glass case ever since.

.....

A longstanding tradition among members of Skull and Bones holds that Prescott S. Bush — father of President George Bush and grandfather of President George W. Bush — broke into the grave with some classmates during World War I and made off with the skull, two bones, a bridle and some stirrups, all of which were put on display at the group’s clubhouse in New Haven, known as the Tomb.

The story gained some validity in 2005, when a historian discovered a letter written in 1918 from one Skull and Bones member to another saying the skull had been taken from a grave at Fort Sill along with several pieces of tack for a horse.

Ramsey Clark, a former United States attorney general who is representing Geronimo’s family, acknowledged he had no hard proof that the story was true. Yet he said he hoped the court would clear up the matter.

Tom Conroy, a spokesman for Yale, declined to comment on the lawsuit but was quick to note that the Tomb was not on university property.
