Hey Skinner - Who got the most hearts? |
|
Congratulations on completing the 1st quarter fund drive. Now that it's over and Valentines Day is past, I assume the Valentines Hearts that members have awarded to other members will be vanishing soon. It's a fun activity and many of us had a great time with them.
The hearts aren't just a popularity contest though popularity is a factor. More than that though, I think it's a tribute to hard work and astute commentary, a measure of respect and appreciation. Those who got hearts are the best of DU.
But who got the most hearts this year?
The member with the most I can find is Babylonsister with an astounding 80 at last count. This may be the most hearts for any member, but can you give us the top 10 or so when the hearts are over?
Again, congratulations on the fund drive. For many of us here, DU is an important part of our lives.
Thanks for everything, Danascot

2. Offhand I don't know who got the most hearts. |
|
Anyway, there are still a few days for people to hand out more hearts. And I was hoping I might still pull off the upset victory. Just kidding.
I doubt we'll post anything about who gets the most. As successful as this fund drive is for us, I am still not completely comfortable with the popularity contest aspect of it, and I'm not sure everyone would appreciate it if I posted something like that.

6. good thinking, skinner |

all the hearts just go to show how generous duers are in general. i bet that thousands were given out this year despite these financial times.

9. I certainly understand your feeling about the popularity aspect |
|
and respect your decision if you don't post a final count.
I think it takes more than popularity to earn a large number; that it's a sign of respect and appreciation.
If Babylonsister has the highest heart count, it's certainly well deserved. She makes an enormous contribution to DU.
For myself, I'm very proud of my little handful of hearts and I'm very appreciative to everyone who gave me one.
Anyway, it's a lot of fun and a lot of us here enjoyed it.

10. I wouldn't - I would find it appalling. |
|
This isn't grade school, but this latest fund drive sure smacked of it.
I donated before the drive started, didn't 'get' any hearts when I did, and don't know who donated the two I have. I thank them for the nice thought, but I actually preferred not having any . . . because of the adolescent oneupsmanship that was rapidly overtaking the fund drive.
If worth on DU is to be measured by how many people 'like' you, then perhaps we should change the name of the board to Democratic Playground or something.
sheesh.
Grow up, folks.

16. Those with many hearts probably do deserve them from the aspect of being great posters. |
|
Prolific also. Most of them could probably start a thread and just say "hi" and get a dozen Recs. Their usernames do get them a lot of attention and so their posts are well read and likely deservedly so, but someone who does not post as often and does post something excellent may just find their posts or OPs little read and just watch them sink. They are likely the ones to get few hearts because few posters really know them compared to the uber popular DUers. When I was in grade school and junior high school the popular kids there got the most "hearts" too and that was not always on merit.

12. Too much like High School |
|
of who is the prettiest girl, the jockiest guy and, of course, who is picked last.
If I will donate, I will make sure that "heartless" DUers will get one from me. It is amazing that DEers, who are supposed to be egalitarians, follow the line of popularity contest. I think that most of us could have guessed who would be the the ones with most of the hearts. These are the ones who get gazillion recommendations for simply posting "Good Morning."
Next year, if DU is still around, let's skip it.
P.S. I am grateful to the ones who contributed hearts to me, but, really, this should be spread around.

14. I think you shouldn't worry about the "popularity" part. |
|
It seems to me the ones getting the most hearts earned them for their constributions to DU.
And there well deserved IMO.
