Legalizing Marijuana More Popular Than Republicans
Two recent polls show that legalizing marijuana, which is not treated as a mainstream position by either the political or media establishment, to be more popular than numerous other positions that are considered mainstream. First, here are the polls:
http://www.pollingreport.com/drugs.htm
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/general_lifestyle/february_2009/40_say_marijuana_should_be_legalized

........................

It should also be noted that, at 40-41% support, legalizing marijuana is more popular than all of the following:

* Opposing stricter gun control laws (40%)
* Congress (26-40%)
* The war in Iraq (39%)
* Decreasing immigration levels (39%)
* Privatizing Social Security (36%)
* Opposing investigating the Bush administration (34%)
* Opposing national, government run health insurance (32%)
* Vetoing stem cell research (31%)
* The Republican Party (31%)
* Dick Cheney (30%)
* George W. Bush (24-34%)
* Decreasing business regulations (28%)
* Rush Limbaugh (28%)
* Mitch McConnell (22%)
* Preventing the openly gay from serving in the military (17%)
* John Boehner (17%)

In short, legalizing marijuana is more popular than the Republican Party, most leading Republicans, and virtually the entire Republican platform.

9. Imagine the tax revenue that could be generated from this...
Tax the growers. People would GLADLY pay sales tax and any other tax you put on it if you could buy it at the gas station.

"Yea, uh, lemme get some Chronic, some Newports, and 20 on #7."

Wouldn't that be fuckin' awesome...:smoke:

10. 56% of the American people opposed the Iraq War prior to the invasion (Feb 03, all polls).

Did that cause our government to even think twice, let alone NOT slaughter 100,000 innocent people to steal their oil? No, but it did cause them to think and act on our vote counting system, and, over the next two years (02-04) fast-track electronic voting systems all over the country, run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by a handful of Bushwhack corporations, with virtually no audit/recount controls.

So much for public opinion.

I do think Barack Obama was elected, although no one can say for sure--so non-transparent has our voting system become. In fact, I'm pretty sure that his mandate was significantly and fraudulently shaved by the 'TRADE SECRET' code owners, to falsely reduce his mandate for any real reform. I think maybe half of Congress was not really elected. This is largely why we are in Iraq now; why Obama is going to "surge" Afghanistan and keep the Forever War ("military-industrial complex" boffo boondoggle) going; and won't be ending the corrupt, murderous, failed U.S. "war on drugs" any time soon--or even just legalize marijuana (certainly the stupidest "blue law" since Prohibition). They don't need to use bullets and elaborate coverups any more*--they have Diebold and brethren, to keep all these incredibly stupid, incredibly violent, incredibly wasteful, corpo/fascist boondoggles on track. The ban on marijuana is certainly the biggest scam in history. Imagine making a plant that grows wild in many regions of the U.S. illegal! It's like making native trees illegal, or wild wheat.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out why it doesn't matter what most people want. Back a couple of years, 90% of the American people opposed the huge deficit that the Bushwhacks were building up--with their wars and their tax cuts for the rich. Did that stop the Bushwhacks? They couldn't have cared less. In fact, they topped it off by handing a goddam trillion dollars over to their rich banker friends, no strings attached, as their final (let's hope) middle finger to the American people. And it's probably why Obama is into half-measures--for instance, underfunding the Jobs bill--and is so reluctant to propose desperately needed, strong leftist reforms across the board--slashing the military budget, busting the media monopolies, reintroducing the Fairness Doctrine, reintroducing the Progressive Tax, nationalizing the banks and other essential industries that are going down, credit card amnesty, converting all mortgages to easy term FHA loans, etc.--and including throwing the privately controlled 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines into 'Boston Harbor' where they belong. He can't do all of what's right, what's desperately needed, what makes the best sense, and what most people want, because the corpo/fascists who rule over us, and now control the vote counting, can easily--easily!--destabilize the country and Diebold Hitler II into office in 2012. So he is forced to tread carefully, and I am pretty sure is well aware of what the limits are, and has been at least since he put Joe Biden on the ticket and promised Hillary the State Department.

*(See James Douglass' new book, "JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters." His thesis--and he makes a powerful case for it, partly based on recently released documents--is that JFK intended to END the "Cold War"--i.e., nuclear disarmament, no more proxy wars, etc.--was making considerable progress on it, through backchannels to Krushchev and Castro, and that is why the CIA killed him, on behalf of the "military-industrial complex." Douglass is part of the Catholic Worker movement. His book was published by the Maryknoll fathers. He is probably THE top researcher on the JFK, RFK and MLK assassinations--and has two more volumes coming, on the latter two.)
