Who knew it would be so easy?!! :eyes:
And get ready for some real RW whacko nuttery!

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/opinions/articles/2009/02/20/20090220frilets201.html

The federal government is poised to pass another trillion dollars' worth of so-called economic stimulus to kick-start the economy. As expected, it is packed with pork, creates a debt that our children and grandchildren will never be able to repay, is politically contentious and, of course, won't work.

Government programs during the Great Depression didn't work either and were on the verge of breakdown when we were saved by, of all things, a world war.

We need the president to get on TV and tell people to spend their money. If you still have a job, go out and buy something. Eat out at your favorite restaurant. Don't cancel that vacation, go!
Why are people getting laid off? Because their businesses are experiencing lower sales. Why is that? Because their customers are experiencing lower sales. Ultimately it's because fearful consumers are not consuming. Perhaps they are huddled at home waiting for this to blow over, but it won't. And no government program can change that.

The primary cause of recession is fear of recession. We need to stop being afraid and go back to living and conducting commerce with one another.

3. I read that this morning. What a fool.
I bet if people lose their jobs after doing all that spending he recommends he'll be the first person to wag his finger at them for not saving for a rainy day.

5. If consumers have no money to spend, then telling them to spend money is pointless.

What are they going to do? Take out a second mortgage? Max out their credit cards?

The author of that letter is as ignorant of the economy as he is of politics.

6. Methinks the writer is confused
To wit: "it is packed with pork, creates a debt that our children and grandchildren will never be able to repay, is politically contentious and, of course, won't work."

So, is he talking about the stimulus bill or the war in Iraq? And isn't it amusing to see how Republicans are all of a sudden fiscally conservative after their President Bush ran up trillions of dollars in debt?

7. Someone should ask the author to donate a couple of hundred $$ to everybody in Arizona so they can
buy something or eat a few meals out.

literally overnight. And we have no bills other than a house payment. But I have to somewhat agree with that article. Hoarding cash will not help the economy. Spending like there is no tomorrow ( although there may not be) is not what the writer is suggesting. But buying what you need, and a little of what you want, will help keep shops open, and in turn pay someones wages so they can do the same. It's the only way out of this mess.
"The primary cause of recession is fear of recession. We need to stop being afraid and go back to living and conducting commerce with one another."
Sounds like a pretty well thought out statement to me. I still spend what little money I have in hopes it will come back around.
