Hey in case you DUers don't know Cenk is on Shuster's show on MSNBC tonight
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 05:30 PM by EV_Ares
@ 6:00 PM.

Hello TYT Listeners.

Cenk will be appearing on MSNBC today at 6pm ET on David Shuster's show.
Please check your local listings and tune in. He will be discussing the NY
Post cartoon with the police shooting the chimp.

Or, come to our site,

http://www.theyoungturks.com, where we will likely stream it live.

When the segment with Cenk ends, please write to MSNBC to let them know
how great Cenk was and that you'd like to see him in the 10pm ET time
slot.

letters@msnbc.com

Thanks.

5. Cenk showing the true republican
that he is...or was. What a failure, give me Sam Sedar for that spot, and I watch "Young Turks" regularly.

6. on the other hand
this may be just what MSNBC home of "Morning Joe" was looking for. Either way he's a sell out.

7. Republican? Sell out? Because you disagree with his nuanced position on this issue?
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 07:19 PM by ihavenobias
I'm sorry, but that's absurd. Even though I don't agree with him on the one point (Ana represented my opinion more closely when they discussed it on TYT), I understand his argument and it was NOT "Republican".

Keep this in context please. Besides which, I don't want a carbon copy of Olbermann and Maddow on the third hour of the PM lineup, what would be the point of that?

8. No he's a sell out
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 08:22 PM by Royal Oak Rog
because he'll do anything to get a talk show on cable including calling something blatantly racist not that at all. I'm sure I'll never convince you because there couldn't be anyone more biased when it comes to Cenk. He's showing that it's all about the money. The headline story on Olbermann tonight is a guy that thinks even Ruppert Murdoch's empire may have a chance of toppling from this blatantly racist act and yet you have the insanity to call this a nuanced position. Go champion another wanna be network talk show host, this one's going no where, he's showing his true colors.

9. I'm sure you're familiar with the expression "Relax, you're at a 10 and you need to be at a 2"
It applies now.

:)

As much as you say I'm biased, you're clearly not open to discussion on this issue and you've made up your mind. That's fine. I disagree and I wish you good luck in your search to find the perfect host that you agree with 100% the time. God knows that never having your beliefs challenged is the way to go!

10. I don't know
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 08:50 PM by Royal Oak Rog
I tend to have a hard time relaxing when a cartoon portrays the the "First black President" as a dead chimpanzee and your hero can't see this as a racist act. Before your only defense is telling people to relax when acts like this can cause just irreparable harm to Obama, maybe you should think about what a cartoon like this is capable of? Sorry to come down on your "talk show hero" but his arguments are weak, and so are yours. I'll bet you'd call it a nuanced argument if Rush came up with it also? It's utterly preposterous, and dangerous.

On top of that his performance on the show couldn't of been weaker, if I had to make an analogy; he was a starting pitcher who got lit up for 10 runs in the first inning. The dream of the talk show's not over, but that inning didn't help him any.

11. There's just one problem with all of this
Aside from your over the top and condescending tone (which I mirrored in my last post unfortunately), I'm on record as saying that *I* DO think the cartoon was obviously ignorant and racist. I can post the link to the thread if you want.

I'm also on record as having disagreed with my favorite talk show host (who you obnoxiously referred to as my "hero") many times. In fact when I do, I email Cenk and or I post something at the home base of TYT.com. In fact I did this recently regarding top marginal tax rates and the Octuplet Mom (two issues, one thread by me).

But the difference between us is that I don't flip out and go nuts when Cenk says something I (strongly) disagree with. Why? Because I keep it in the CONTEXT of the person saying it. If Rush says it, you know he's a racist POS. If Cenk says it (and Rush would never make a nuanced argument about how we need to delicately approach discussions of race to get better results), I realize it's the same guy that cried along with Jesse Jackson:

you have no bias. It says so on your screen name, so it must be true.

17. Well
It wouldn't have been my first choice for his first MSNBC appearance, let me put it that way.

I'd much rather have had it be closer to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcXJ_UOn2-g

15. So you regularly watch a 'republican' show, hosted by a 'failure'?
Then post in threads about such show?

Bored?

19. Here's my opinion of Cenk
I agree with him 70% of the time. I don't where he's coming from with his opinion on this subject, but the cartoon is clearly dangerous, that's what get me upset about his opinion here.

Half the time Cenk comes off as someone who's for justice and fairness and the other half he's just so Hollyweird and ready to cash in for the big bucks if he gets the chance, the fact that he was a repuke commentator before this tells you that.

But I won't deny that he's entertaining, he is that. In my opinion if he could get Ben Mankiewicz, and Wesley Clark Jr. to do a 3 way host thing or maybe corespondents it would be great.

On this subject it just smacks of so much transparency that he'll go to any length to cash in for a talk show it bothers me.

20. Except that most people have responded very negatively
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 09:41 PM by ihavenobias
It's not like he didn't know how his appearance tonight would go over with many on the left, his Huffington Post article on the topic the other day got much of the same reaction. Even my comment was "I disagree with the first part of the argument...".

He's principled, even though it may well hurt him in this case. Again, this wouldn't have been my first choice of a topic by a long-shot!

21. Principled?
C'mon man I watch the show probably as much as you do. Amy Goodman's principled. How many times in a week does Cenk talk about getting rich, or making it big? Now who is he being true to here? I truly like the guy, but you're gonna deny that he still has some republican tendencies?

I really don't want to run the guy down, although I'm sure you would disagree. I really hope he does get the MSNBC spot, but being principled is not one of his strong suits. There are some causes he's strong on and other ones as long as he can cash in I get the feeling he'd step on even your chest to get to that box office.

22. Principled as in he'll state his opinion even if he knows it's going to be unpopular.
He rarely plays it off, and he certainly didn't take the easy way out here. That's what I meant.

23. I see it as showing
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 10:18 PM by Royal Oak Rog
MSNBC that he's not another left wing progressive and this is the game he has to play to get a spot on their network. Problem here is he shouldn't have fought the "I'm not a left wing liberal" on this subject, maybe it was bad timing, but I think this issue is a potential powder keg. Hey, maybe if the pressure continues on Murdoch, Cenk can catch a position on that network, and I'm kidding here, but wouldn't that be something, Cenk takes a position with Fox News so Murdoch can show that he will hire a left wing liberal and he's not a racist ahole that we all know he is?

Cenks argument was weak on the subject. If it was a audition for a talk show position, Cenk failed badly IMHO. It'll probably be on the loop of the TYT show. I'm sure "I have no bias" is cuing it up right now, or maybe not.
