It's not the fall that kills you -
-it's the sudden stop.

I believe most folks feel like they are free-falling right now. They do not see the bottom of this downturn and it creates a great deal of anxiety.

The President is trying to soft land the economy out of this freefall. At the same time, he is trying to do it with calm and deliberate speed. Unfortunately, no one knows how hard this crash will be?

It is interesting that the Republicans in Congress do not feel that the country is in dire shape. Otherwise, they would not be participating with such zeal with their political games. I seriously doubt that their supporters back in the states feel as confident about the economy as they.

Conservatives, such as Rush Limbaugh, would like folks to believe this fall in the stock market and the economy in general, is primarily the fault of Barack Obama. Even the huge deficit this year, which is really George Bush's deficit, belongs to Barack Obama, they say. He makes George W Bush look like a piker, in regards to budget deficits, Limbaugh preaches to his choir.

1. Thank you for perfectly describing what this feels like.

It feels EXACTLY like a free fall. Even down to the nonstop butterflies in my stomach lately.

You nailed it to a T.

Everything is going out of control. There's nothing to hold onto right now.

It's terrifying, and I just wish it would stop.

3. Thanks kimmer....
I'm amazed that Republicans do not feel this same anxiety.

4. The leaders live outside the economy
since they are wealthy enough

Now the base... they are getting strangely focussed and the talking points are not going as far as they used to

Observation from a very recent gaming convention, like last weekend... for some reason Role Playing and Miniature games attract right wingers

The fear was palpable and I don't mean of bad dice rolls... either

5. That is the heart of the issue.
A free fall yet more like an expensive fall full of anxiety and worry. We don;t know the extent of it and we have no control.

6. We do not have any control...
That is right. We anticipate the worse. The beginnings of a depression? Perhaps?

7. I think we anticipate the worst because of what has happened
Just in the last 8 years alone. Not many people have any real reason to feel secure in anything now, whether their jobs or health and because of how these attacks on the ME have shown us how expendable people are, not to leave out how expendable american workers have become.

So yes, I feel many people fear a economic depression and for the reasons mentioned above which are valid reasons in my book.

These are the things we have no control over at all, I doubt we as a country are together enough or connected enough all being on the same page to stand together and revolt.

I guess somehow we trusted in our government to save us from the last administration , this was proven out in 2006 midterms just where we placed our faith. Most people did not realize that the corporations controlled the government and who can say just how many still don't see this. We don;t get to see behind the curtain.
