Bear with me, I'm having an... existential crisis? of sorts right now. OBTW, that's not the word I'm searching for. :)

This isn't an original thought--I have Michael Moore to thank for my wake up call--and I'm going to start reading Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine" tonight. Anyway, it's stuck in my craw at the moment.

The captains of industry--bankers and CEOs--who live here...

...destroy communities, families and lives.

So, I'm thinking of a word that is an oxymoron, something like, legalized violence.

A related question... Are pacifists dupes of the captains of industry? Is it not just a matter of fact that the (IMO) real criminals (captains of industry) take advantage of the lessons learned by our models, Ghandi and MLK, Jr.?

Another related question... Has globalization just undermined civil disobedience? I mean, I'm not supposing amending the Constitution would bring about real resolution. Our problems today transcend national boundaries.

Argh! Many of you are way ahead of me. Will you console me? :(

Thank you my friends :)

5. Opulent poverty
juxtaposes the images of where they're living and the communities their greed is destroying and, more importantly, raises the issue of their "spiritual poverty" meaning their absence of any sense of morality.

These greedy bastards want to be feudal lords and the rest of us will be the unwashed, uneducated, unfed masses.

7. If this is any consolation
Most of Flint does NOT look like that. Granted, there are some extremely run down and desolate neighborhoods, but we are not a ghost town. There is a very determined and dedicated revitalization movement going on, with a focus now turning from reliance on the auto industry, to service industry and educational institutions.

I love Michael Moore. I was part of the group that presented him with the Paul Wellstone Award, a couple of years ago. Roger and Me did show the effect of GM's greed, on Flint. But we're still here, we're not giving up on rebuilding our great city. Never underestimate the people's will and determination to survive.

16. Kudos to Flint. No offense intended. I've never had luck...
posting pictures. In fact, I had trouble posting that picture. So I (wrongly) described it incase it couldn't be viewed. I just wanted a picture, any similar picture, and I knew where I could find one quickly. I removed the caption as the location is absolutely irrelevant.

Thanks and my sincerest apologies. :)

17. No apology needed
Poor Flint is the poster child city for urban blight. No media ever seems interested in covering the positive work being done. I guess I'm just a cautiously optimistic hometown booster.

I have seen a story about your revival on the T.V. Like I said, I just knew where I could find (an old) picture right quick.
