1 month in, repubs having a difficult time 'getting over it. Screw em'.

There is a deeply disturbed undercurrent of insanity rolling across the land, the repubs are finding it increasingly difficult to simply get over it, like they admonished us to do 8 years ago. Its really eating at them to see President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

Many of them are irrational and even unstable, and Obama's only been in a few days.

Good gravy Gertrude, how will they be in 8 fucking years?

1. Look at historical facts
With Clinton, they launched a partisan attack to impeach. With Carter, they drove him out of office with the Arms for hostages deal.
Instead of doing anything that's good for the country, they always do what's good for the party. We call that "treason", they call it "smart thinking". Methinks they are all treasonous dogs worthy of the gallows!

2. Get ready for the shortest-time-in office calls for impeachment.
Did they seriously expect everything to be better in 4 weeks?

Oh wait, yes they did.

Just like they though Bewsh would be a great president.

3. What they can't come to grips with is that the Nation has "got over" them
The damage is done and its plain to see both it and who caused it. There are pockets of the nation where information flow is so impeded that they haven't got it yet, but even they will. The Republican Party, in the form it has assumed since 1980, is not a dieing beast. The Party itself is not dead, and those who brought it to the state its in are still around and influential, so the transformation back to what it once was really hasn't got itself moving yet, but it will come.

By the next election you will see a "New" republican party and it will very much resemble the last effective Republican Party, that of Dwight David Eisenhower. If Republicans are good at anything its moving back into the past. How such a political orientation will be adapted to fair in today's environment I do not know, but it is the only way their party can survive and I'm sure there are people in that party who will come to recognize it. Fortunately for us they are generally slow to act. The driver's seat is ours for the next 8 years, after that - its hard to say.

5. In other words, they're going to become what we now call "moderates"?
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 08:22 AM by HughBeaumont
Or at least paint themselves as such?

I cannot picture Sarah Palin turning into a moderate. I also cannot see anyone on the RePuke horizon that could be considered a serious candidate that Barack couldn't tear to shreds in debates and policies. In fact, I think the party as a whole could very well end up going further to the right than they already were.

I think they're too bigoted, short-sighted, too addicted to religion & money and just downright selfish and hateful to turn back. Eisenhower wasn't perfect, but even he understood the need for American long term growth and why too much wealth concentrated in the hands of too few would result in economic undoing. Modern Republicans are completely against these two ideas alone; they love oligarchies and think the boom/Bubble/CRASH Friedman economy is perfectly accepted practice.

I don't think it matters anyway because I believe America as a whole HAS gotten over them. What we need to do at this point is pound the message home on a constant basis just WHO is responsible for this mess, HOW they did it and WHY we need to start taking our elections and our economy seriously so this never happens again. Two depressions in a lifetime, both caused by no-one-at-the-wheel conservative economics, is more than enough.

8. I don't see them going any farther to the right
Sarah Palin will not be a part of the political debate 3 years from now; she will fade like any other Edsel.

Republicans will lose more seats in both the House and the Senate in 2010, many more. The reason is that the Republican Party is broken into factions and it will take at least one election cycle for a new philosophy to arise and that can only happen when the weaker of those factions falls to the side of the ballot booth. So in 2010 you can expect the Palin faction - weak now and even weaker two years from now. You can expect the Newt faction, trying to bring back failed policies of the 80's~90's. I fear that this one might rise to the top. Then there will be the Eisenhower (for lack of a better name) Republicans. These are the mindset of the bankers of the 50's, fiscal conservatives, isolationists, trade protectionists, bi-polar about their trust and faith in the military. I think this set will be the winner and is the one to watch out for in 2012. The reason is that of the 3 its the most sensible one. Its also the only one that can take votes from Democrats.

That's how I see it - who knows? I've been right before, not often, but it has happened.

and also the environment, and the national honor.

Only a wee pocket of confirmed, low-brow, self-loathing, kool-aid freaks continue to salute Uber Leader, and Chief Chickenhawk & Propagandist, $38-million-a-year Rush 'DrugAbuser' Limbaugh, and the other lameass Chickenhawk Diaper Sex-Freaks Wide-Stance Family Values Freaks who are the Republicon 'leadership'

6. We're Watching A Slow Motion Implosion...
There's a more fundamental problem with the GOOP...extreme denial. Listen to hate radio and you'd think that the GOOP had the election stolen or that it wasn't the party or "conservatism" that lost...but that McCain was really a RINO and had Zombie Raygun run, Obama would have never stood a chance. Total denial...added to their already disconnect with reality.

Yep, many told us to "get over it" in '00 and '04...and we sure as hell did. Many of us worked our asses off to unseat as many repugnicans as we could over the past 3 years and turned that anger into a positive. Now let's see how the GOOP handles it. Do they have the brains to figure out how they lost the country or even how to start coming back? Where is their Howard Dean or Dkos? All they have is Rushbo and his Hate Radio Harpies. Just like radio is now on the verge of bankruptcy, so is the GOOP...and they still continue to slide further into oblivion.

Remember, they're howling cause while they may not know why, they do know that President Obama is both very popular and shown he will be an effective leader. Damn right that frosts their cold butts...and the more successful he is the worse it gets for them as not only will he get the credit for positive changes in this country, but voters are sure to remember who created the messes.

While the GOOP thinks they're forming an "opposition", it sure looks more like a circular firing squad to me.

11. Done, the greater swath of what you've referred to is predicated upon the failure of Dems...
...or Dems having been triangulated, co-opted, or snookered; which happens too often for my liking. Many pooh-pooh it, but many more have little clue when I often refer to positioning & placement. Your refs as to 'Edsel', factions that include 50's bankers; a time when most all people had was a pass book account they wrote into it deposits and wrote similarly as to withdrawals being made and that was that i.e. no ATM fees, mutual funds, etc, would seem to allude to that as though it can happen though insofar as any republican Palin/Newt/Ike factions or no? Coalescing of disparate republican products, ditties & jingles? Or any *successful* co-opting or triangulation of Dem resolve already up and running, well...

You tear open a box of new/improved Mealy - to find the same old bugs - and it will remain imo a Dem point of order to recall just where they came from.

My sense is that the extent to which the fragmentation of the republican party you've laid out becomes successful in 2012; is the extent to which we are not successful. Or have lost, or squandered the point of order itself.

12. Good gravy Gertrude.
I don't know the answer to this because I don't have a psych degree, but I'm glad I read your post because of "good gravy Gertrude". I have a feeling I'll be using that one alot.
