South Carolina's governor may turn down stimulus money
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-mark-sanford21-2009feb21,0,1271768.story

DISSENT: Gov. Mark Sanford says he’s worried about excessive government borrowing to fund the stimulus.

------------------------------------------------

Yet the Republicans had no trouble shoveling billions to Halliburton in no bid contracts.... or creating the largest government bureaucracy in the world at Homeland Security... now they suddenly got religion?

What a load of Republican crap... Dems need to take off the kid gloves.

1. If he'd rather see his citizens suffer and his state slide down the tubes, then fuck him....
...... Sorry S. Carolinians, but this is what happens when you elect a Good Ole Boy as governor.

:argh:

15. Good Ole Boy he is not.
He makes Good Ole Boys look good! Sanford is a "drown government in the bathtub" extremist nut-job. It's part of the reason he doesn't get along well with the Good Ole Boys in the state legislature. The sad thing is that there are lots of people in the state who think what he's doing is a great thing. It explains a lot about this state, doesn't it?

5. No - he'll grandstand and then figure how to funnel it to his buddies
There is a lot of republican history that says that is what he will do

4. What's especially disgusting is the "take/no take" decision
is among politicians expected to consider running for the White House in 2012. What idiots. They're betting on our economy failing so they'll have good campaign ads. Screw the citizens.

6. what a way to tell your constituents
you care much less about them than you do about your credibility with a political party that's in its death throes anyway.

7. You can expect the pattern to go something like this:
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 08:29 AM by peace frog
GOPer governor will loudly and quite publically declaim the stimulus, then allow his/her state legislators to quietly accept the funds. Hypocrites, every one.

10. NPR reported yesterday that SC's unemployment benefits fund is bankrupt ..
The state of South Carolina has the third (#3) highest unemployment rate in the country. South Carolina has a zero balance in its unemployment benefits account, and (according to the NPR story and the Greenville News) will have to borrow cash from the US Treasury to cover February checks.

Meanwhile, Goobernor Sanford, Senator Lindsey "Pretty-boy" Graham, and Senator Jim-Bob DimWitt are loudly singing yet another chorus of that GOP hit tune "We Don't Want 'Yer Stinkin' Stimulus." They pander, they pimp, they whore around; and their right-wing, atavistic base loves it.

11. Good point. The facts tell the story. Too bad our media doesn't know how to check facts like these.
