2. Sounds like they need a Schoolhouse Rock lesson
They can "cancel" whatever they want, but it will be vetoed. The odds of them getting veto proof majorities are nil. The stimulus spending will be about 75% over by the start of 2011, and all done by mid-2012 anyway.

7. I heard two brain
washed dems today discussing the stimulus bill..saying we would be paying for it for a long time. I said..at least we're not sending people to Iraq and he said, "they're already there". "Well, we're not sending anymore".

I can always tell when someone is listening to the corporatemedia and the repods like they actually knew shit.

9. Their strategy might work, imho
They are working hard at linking everything that has gone wrong, is going wrong, and will go wrong with the economy to the stimulus bill. They are conditioning the public to think "Obama" and "stimulus" whenever they hear bad news.

All they need to do is stick with the script: lots of indignation and outrage over what Obama and the "Democrat" party are doing to the country and keep linking the bad news with Obama/stimulus/Democrats. They know plenty of bad news is yet to come - they caused it, after all. They're smart enough to use it to their advantage, and no matter how disingenuous and absurd it appears to those of us with a fully developed brain, I think it might work. They don't have many other options apart doing the right thing, which of course isn't an option for the current Republican party.

10. I don't think they are smart enough.

and secondly, their constituents aren't buying it. As was stated it would be too late to cancel any stimulus money anyway.

These clowns and their "strategies" are in a deep minority and stuff like this simply won't fly.

13. Sometimes cunning and dishonesty makes up for smart
Look at the idiots that ran the country into the ground over the past 8 years- stupid, but their willingness to do anything to "win" put them in power and kept them there. There are millions of ill-informed, gullible, selfish people in this country and Republicans know how to press their buttons.

17. This is true, but I think they have become so diluted
with these tactics that they no longer can use most of them. Their actions are finally making some of the more comatose Americans aware, as the results of these 8 plus years are affecting them. But, oy, I'm an optimist.

11. They could
but only if they got two-thirds majorities in both the House and the Senate. And that's just not mathematically possible in the Senate in 2010.

12. One Problem

They will not re-gain the majority, and most likely they will lose even more seats. A Gallup poll taken four days ago, shows that approval of Republicans in Congress has dropped, from 23% approval to 19% approval. While approval of Democrats in Congress has went up from 18% approval to 43% approval.

That's a 25 point increase for Democrats, and a 4 point decrease for Republicans. It shows that the American people do not like their vote no on everything no matter what garbage, and if they keep doing it they will drop even farther in the polls.

15. So what sort of party will take their place?
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 02:57 PM by KamaAina
seeing as how they appear to be hell-bent on replicating the collapse of the Whig Party that paved the way for their ascendancy in the first place?

A cautious centrist party would be nice. Then all the DLCers could join it, and the Democratic wing could have our Democratic party back!

edit: spelling

as the new 3rd party. It isn't exactly a new party, but just the smart Dems taking the party back....

or something like that.
