3. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 10:19 PM by Idealism
Number of 9/11 Hijackers from Iraq: 0

Al-Qaeda wasn't even in Iraq until the US invaded the country and toppled Saddam's secular government. Say what you will about Saddam, he allowed women to have more rights than any other country in the Arab world and he kept terrorist groups out for the most part. Al-Qaeda's first operation in Iraq was in 2004.

4. You're sweet, and so naive
That presentation requires a certain set of beliefs - you know, like in reality and hard facts - and rightwingnuts are blessedly unburdened by any of that.

They'll laugh it off and tell you it's just more LIBERAL PROPAGANDA.

I don't have any rightwingnut friends, fortunately, but I did have someone at Comcast the other day, over the phone, while we were waiting for something, tell me all her troubles, her house maybe getting foreclosed on, losing her other job and feeling lucky to have gotten this job at a lot less money, and how her sister's kids came to live with her because her sister is a drug addict, and she doesn't know how she's gonna keep being able to afford food for all three kids, as well as her two kids who are still at home with her, and I said, "Well, the goofball we had for eight years did a great job of ruining our country, but I think our new President will do everything he can to fix it. It'll be hard, though."

And she lit into an anti-Obama diatribe ("He's rich, so what does he know?") while my mouth dangled open.

She ragged all of Congress, every person who didn't support the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and said that Bill Clinton had done much more harm to our country than Chimpy Fucknuts ever did "because at least we had a god-fearing man who knew how to keep his pants on."

I listened, and decided I'd just change the subject once she stopped talking, but her final line was "And Ronald Reagan was the greatest President we've ever had."

I was able to say, very quietly, "We probably shouldn't talk politics. So, did you have any trouble with the snow when you drove to work this morning?"

Some people, you just don't want to waste your time trying to educate them. It's an utter waste of time.

9. Tell her she
DESERVES all that's happened to her recently.

Mumble something about chickens coming home to roost, and then look vague and confused and say something about doing unto others.

I am SO SICK AND TIRED of people like her who cannot make the connection between eight years of Bush, not to mention twelve years of Republican control of Congress, and their own misery. She freaking deserves this. I started out feeling empathy for her, but then when you listed what she'd said, I want her to know that she is the author of her own misery.

These people will never learn. It's too bad the rest of us have to suffer with them.

12. What you said:
"These people will never learn."

That's why I just changed the subject and got my business done. There are some projects that have hope, so you take them on. But, with people like that woman at Comcast, hell, I'd better spend my time teaching the wallpaper to yodel.

I'd have more success with the wallpaper, too.

11. "He's rich, so what does he know" and then defended Bush?

The republicans took 7 years to spend what the democrats spent in less than 2 months.

10. Earlier they complained that the money could not be
spent fast enough to help the economy. But no, 2 months is how long it took to authorize it, not how long it takes to spend it. How long did it take to authorize the Iraq war?

17. And I've yet to hear anything of value the US has gotten from all that treasure expended,
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 02:09 PM by indepat
not to mention the sacrifice of life, limbs, and brains and the carnage and destruction of infrastructure, economy, artifacts, homes, jobs, family, and society. Is there a solitary sane person in the world who thinks we gotten value for all that treasure et al through additional safety and security for our nation? Please clue me in as to what I'm missing here. :D

Edited for spelling
