I hope you all saw MO governor Jay Nixon on CSPAN this morning
He was terrific. MO is so lucky to have him, especially after the horrid governor they had before.

Governor Nixon made a great point about the governors who are refusing to take the Stimulus funds. He said he thought it was wrong for taxpayers to pay taxes to the federal government and then have their governors refuse federal funds for programs that help those taxpayers.

Excellent point, don't you think?

1. It's the most obvious and basic point.
Who does Bobby Jindal think he is denying the unemployed citizens of his state extended benefits? Republicans are in a lose lose situation. If they take the money they piss off their nutball base. If they don't take it, they piss off everyone else. It's beautiful.

7. A caller from Louisiana on CSPAN this morning just reamed Jindal
He talked about how poor LA is and how utterly stupid it is for him to refuse the funds. He also said Jindal is only doing this so he can run for president. And I thought well gee, that's smart - refuse to accept funds to help your people and then expect them to vote for you for president?

4. I believe that might be the case for some states
I also think this will come back to haunt the stupid governors who refuse the funds.

Idiots. What can you expect from Republicans?

Thank God John McCain lost.

8. When the guy from Lincoln MO called in about
all the tax breaks given to retailers such as Wal Mart, I could see Nixon nervously swallowing. He KNOWS it is wrong to give huge corporations tax breaks and then expect working people to shoulder the tax burdens to fund police and schools. I doubt Nixon will make many changes to the tax abatements given to corporations but he sure did talk well.

The jobs created by Wal Mart are jobs where their employees are forced to seek government assistance for food and medical coverage. So, not only is Wal Mart and other retailers getting huge tax breaks on property and sales taxes, but they are also transferring these additional responsibilities to the taxpayers of Missouri. It's got to stop.

You know WalMart gave Nixon a ton of money to run for governor.

11. Of course..which is why I don't expect him
to challenge tax breaks to corporations. St Louis City gave American Airlines a BUNCH of tax breaks. The airline promised that STL would be a major hub. They got their tax breaks and now Lambert Airport is little more than a mid sized airport.

13. I hear ya. Kansas City has literally given away its downtown to TIF recipients
I am still asking why H&R Block, the country's largest tax preparer, needed TIF financing to build a fancy new headquarters.

12. The Rushican governor of North Dakota
was just exposed by his own constituent. The caller asked how come he's against short term nationalization of banks when he was the head of the bank is the state which is state run. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaah!! That was funny.

16. You Could See The Treadmarks On His Balding Head...
Any GOOP governor who dares to take the funds knows the Club For Growth (as in tumors) or some other right wing nutbag group will run someone against them in the primaries. The weaker they are the the weaker their state, the more they toe the line.

Another reason the GOOP are sweating bullets about nationalization is it would open the books...really expose all the corruption and fraud that went on over the past 8 years.

:hi:

18. Can't tell you how happy I am to have Nixon in the governor's mansion
Especially with the economy tanking. The man isn't going to do everything I want him to, but he's a hell of a lot better than Blunt Trauma, and he's got some good common sense and won't punish the people of his state due to his own ideological differences like Jindal and other 'Pug fools are.
