Army Reports Additional Recruits Due To Tough Economy
MILWAUKEE -- Army recruiters say more men and women are walking in off the street looking for the job that will always be there despite tough economic times.
Army Recruits Go Up During Tough Economy
The Army reports an additional 1,000 recruits for the last quarter, compared to the previous year. Officials expect that number to jump even more with graduations approaching.
"We've seen an increase in walk-in traffic. Individuals willing to step up to the plate when our nation's at war to serve our country,” Lt. Col. Daniel Miller, of Milwaukee’s US Army Recruiting Battalion, said.
Local Army officials said they’ve met recruitment goals for the last two years but more recently are seeing even more interested in signing up.
Miller said despite the country being at war, massive layoffs like the one at Janesville’s GM plant are making many think twice about a military calling.
