ORLANDO, Fla. -- George P. Bush may not be ready to follow his father, grandfather and uncle into politics just yet, but he is trying to help the Republican Party regain a conservative message, which on Saturday included criticism of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.

Bush, the son of former Gov. Jeb Bush, grandson of former President George H. Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush, addressed a national conference of young Republicans and told them there is a rift in the party between fiscal conservatives and what he calls "D light" — Republicans who are trying to appeal to the political middle.

"There's some in our party that want to assume that government is the answer to all of our problems," Bush said. "I'm not going to name any names."

But he said in Florida, there were Republicans who have endorsed the recent $787 billion stimulus plan that Democratic President Barack Obama signed into law. Bush was referring to Republican Crist, who lobbied hard for the bill, including an appearance with Obama in Fort Myers.

"You know who I'm talking about," Bush said, as the crowd attending the Young Republican National Federation murmured and laughed a little tensely. "That's problematic. We as conservatives have to ultimately balance the federal government's checkbook."

Lord let me live long enough to never see another Bush in power in this country.

and addressed the GOP convention representing young America. He's just another rich kid who never has had to work who will expect that he deserves high office. After eight years of his Uncle Chimp that whole family should be ashamed to show their faces.

3. He does have the credentials for being a Bush politician
He was arrested when he was 18 for burglary and criminal mischief at a girlfriends home.

4. I listened to Crist this AM, and although I would never vote for a Pub,
he sounded like one of the few rational ones. Yes he said he didn't like the whole plan, but he also said doing nothing is not an option and gov't needs to help the people now.

7. He won't switch parties
It would be political suicide in Jeb Bush's Florida, and Crist already has his eye on the 2010 Senate race.

8. Whew. I thought it might be that twit Pierce *.
Not that P is a whole lot better. The name "Bush" works almost as good as a swig of Ipecac around my circles.

11. In a word: no
There's still the younger Bush generation coming up, headed by Jebthro's son George P Bush. We ain't seen nothin' yet, they're just getting warmed up for the final global clusterfuck. Makes ya all warm and fuzzy at the thought, don't it.

10. when the hell are they gonna start balancing the federal
governments' checkbook????:wtf: Eight years of deficit spending and no one ever talks about how much Iraq is costing anymore. This is just another silverspoon legacy that will get stuffed down our throats.

Was America ever the country I was taught it was?
