what are others paying in homeowners insurance throughout the country? |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-22-09 03:34 PM by onethatcares
and who are the insurers?
We have to obtain our homeowners insurance thru the company of last resort here in Florida, Citizens Insurance. We live in St Petersburg, in a 1926 Frame house that is valued at 199,000 for insurance purposes. Our premiums are $2800.00 per year. Now, we have had brushes with hurricanes, we've had windstorms, but we are located 7 miles away from the gulf of Mexico and about 4 miles away from Tampa Bay. At our elevation, water damage from flooding is not a problem at all, in fact we are not eligible for federal flood insurance.
We're just wondering what people in California, New Jersey (coastal), South and North Carolina (coastal), The tornado belt and other natural disaster areas are paying. Is there a state run insurer in your state?
Thanx
Peace

Valued at 525,000 on insurance policy. No fire protection to speak of (CDF station 13 miles away) but 19,000 gal pool and high pressure pump available. Premiums just under $1,000 annually.

5. about $900/year in California |
|
of course, insurance doesn't cover earthquake damage. A standalone earthquake insurance policy would be about $1600 and doesn't cover the first $160K in damages.

7. so basically, we're getting screwn down here |
|
I mean, if tornado alley and the wild fire places are only paying a 4th of what I am, it's a rip off for the Floridians.
Anybody know what people in Mississippi and Alabama are paying for close to the gulf coverage?

11. I posted down thread (#10) |
|
I'm 13 miles from Florida and about 60 miles from the Gulf, so there are others parts of southern Bama much closer to the water than me. We get some pretty bad storms here though. I notice some of the replies on the thread are valued way more than us and not paying much more. That kinda bites lol. But damn, I couldn't handle those Florida rates at all!

8. My house is valued at 145,000...worth $75,000 on today's market... |
|
I pay $1,400.00 per year. And that is with a HUGE deductible and it does not cover wind damage on screen porches and pool cages.

10. We live about 30 miles north of I-10 |

on the Gulf this seems to be a major part of how your rates are determined. We pay about 500/yr on a house valued at 125k with USAA. Everyone I know w/out USAA seems to be paying a lot more.
