The Trials of Ted Haggard on HBO |
|
I saw the documentary this weekend and contrary to my perception, I actually felt sorry for him. The film pulls no punches and lays out his blatant hypocrisy in stark fashion. But it also displays the price he and his family paid for his deception - total and complete ostracism.

1. I enjoyed it as well, but my sympathy for him was pretty shallow. |
|
Clearly he has significant personal struggles, but he has hurt a lot of people with his deep hypocrisy.
Alexandra Pelosi is doing some great work. This and the other one on the right wing are both outstanding, IMO.

2. Oh, did Pelosi do the Ted Hagard story, as well? |
|
Both were well done.
I had mixed feelings on Ted Hagard, as well, but he came across much more sympathetic in that documentary.

I couldn't help thinking that if he would come clean and accept himself and sincerely apologize to the gay community he would get treated a hell of lot better than his Church Leaders have treated him and his family. His ordeal has obviously affected him deeply because of what it's done to his family and he claims the thing that hurt him most was the abandonment of his so-called 'friends'. I have no problem believing that. He rode the rarefied heights of practically being worshipped and in no time flat he found himself living in motels and selling insurance door to door trying desperately to keep his family together.
I feel sorry for him mostly because the truth could change his life so at least he can be who he really is. Yet all he wanted to do was to be part of that Church. I suspect it has to do with his wife and children. He must feel he owes them the restoration of the rich life they enjoyed before. It's sad on every level.

5. Ted Haggard is a TANGENT,,,,,getting people side-tracked off to his sexual 'piccadillos' |
|
Not important. UNLESS, someone/some entity is using their knowledge of high profile people's piccadillos to blackmail them. THEN, it would be important.
It's happening, imo....to many members of congress.
I can't explain it otherwise ~ or there is no other 'excuse' for what they do/how they vote.
