Bunning: Justice Ginsberg likely will be dead in 9 months

By Joseph Gerth
February 22, 2009

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning predicted over the weekend that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg would likely be dead from pancreatic cancer within nine months.

During a wide-ranging 30-minute speech on Saturday at the Hardin County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, Bunning said he supports conservative judges "and that's going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer."

"Bad cancer. The kind that you don't get better from," he told a crowd of about 100 at the old State Theater.

"Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer," he said.

Ginsburg, who is 75, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this month and surgeons removed a small tumor that had not spread. Doctors termed it a "Stage 1" cancer, meaning they found it in the early stages when it is most curable.

2. What the hell? Has Bunning lost whatever remnent of a mind he has left?
Why on earth would he even suggest this?

I can only guess that he was projecting onto her the bad things he wants to happen to the Court, to her as a woman and a liberal, and to Obama.

The man is scum, total scum and I pray for karma to take care of him...

3. Bill Frist must've been Bunning's mentor - another long-distance diagnosis.
What a complete fool. What is it with that region? Do they cultivate these idiots in hothouses?

6. Non-physcians talking about prognoses are playing Dr.
And it's generally accepted that you don't do this sort of thing in a public way.

Just so that the scuttlebutt is better informed here are some published median survival times. I can't speak to their validity. http://www.cancersupportivecare.com/pancreas.html

Local/resectable Disease is confined to the pancreas and is clearly separated from surrounding blood vessels; the median survival is 17 months

Locally advanced/unresectable Disease encases or compresses surrounding blood vessels, or has directly extended into adjacent structures; the median survival is 8-9 months

Metastatic Evidence of extrapancreatic spread to distant organs (liver, lungs, etc.); the median survival is 4-6 months

9. Bunning is no spring chicken
He might not need to be rooting other people toward death with his better years far behind as well.

And does he realize that we have a Democratic President who would be appointing the replacement for any Supreme Court Justice right now anyway?

How many line drives to the head did he take?

Seriously, someone I know worked at the Ky Legislative Research Committee when he was a state legislator and Bunning was known as just about the dumbest guy there. Repeat, dumbest guy in KENTUCKY state legislature (that takes real talent).

13. This reminds me
Now that we have a democratic president and congress, isn't it time for more liberal churches to have a big get-together and pray for the retirement and/or demise of the more right-wing judges on the Supreme Court?

14. Can you imagine had Durbin said the same thing about a conservative judge?
This is horrible. Yeah the prognosis is bad, but her she returned to work so FUCK HIM.

15. I can't imagine Durbin ever being this
uncouth and disrespectful. And I don't really know how bad her prognosis is; they removed the tumor and didn't find any cancer around it or in other organs.

I watched my uncle die from pancreatic cancer because the VA didn't diagnose it in time; he was too far along to have any kind of surgery, so I'm hoping for the best for Judge Ginsberg.
