USMC flag display question |
|
There is a dude that raises and lowers his flags daily in good weather. I noticed this because I'm just whack that way.
He has Stars and Stripes on top with the red USMC flag under. All good.
Underneath the Corps flag is a narrow banner-type flag. It is red, not tall but long. To me, being an airdale, it looks like the flag attached to a landing gear pin.
Does anyone know what this might represent?

2. The Corps uses the same campaign ribbons the army uses. Could it be something like that? |
|
You'll LOVE this. The gas station near me is run by a former Marine. Every day, his troops go out and execute the colors at...7am. This drives me nuts. So, I walk over there and talk to him. He says his people raise the flag at 7 because he tells them to raise it then. I tell him that, perhaps because I'm from the military community where you 'execute' the colors at 8am it drives me nuts. He says, "I fought with the Marines." I say, "Yeah, about when to raise the flag!"
They STILL put it up at 8am.
Weather protocols are looser now because most flags are nylon and do better in bad weather.

4. I got a funny one for ya |
|
I was "in recovery" a few years back and my mind was a mess.
I saw a church flying this HUGE church flag that represented the church. I got it in my mind that it was illegal because they did not have a bigger American Flag flying at the same time. I went rounds with the church, local officials, and media. They took down the flag.
I moved away and returned 6 months or so after that. It was back up. I was laughing so hard at myself for being so silly I had to pull over :D
oops.
