Mayor out-Foxed his interviewer on Fox News.

When Mayor Dannel Malloy ventured onto Fox News on Monday, we don't know if he sensed a set-up, but the reception he received was hardly fair.

Invited on the program "Fox & Friends" to discuss Stamford's requests for money from the federal stimulus bill, the mayor was put on screen above a label that read "Serious Pork." And his appearance was prefaced by an introduction in which host Steve Doocy asked incredulously: "are (mayors) serious about their requests?"

Apparently in case anyone missed the point, a graphic about Stamford's request was headlined: "$eriou$ly?"

Mr. Doocy then began the interview by distorting Stamford's request: "He is asking for a $15 million turf field, among other things."

That sent the mayor into overdrive. Apparently realizing he wasn't going to get a fair shake, Mr. Malloy began a rapid-fire answer and pretty much kept on talking through the entire segment.

His critics have called the mayor's performance rude, but Mr. Malloy deserves kudos for avoiding the lion's jaws, as it were. Included in his deluge was plenty of politico-speak, for sure, but he also explained how Stamford is seeking funds for a waste-to-energy plant and yes, funding for several fields, not one.

Stamford has requested a whopping $615 million from the federal government for a list of projects. And City Hall was right to ask for every penny -- in the full knowledge that only a fraction would actually be granted. The mayor later in the week estimated that Stamford could get $6 million or so. Chances are the city will be lucky to get that.

..snip

Way to go, Mayor Malloy!!

1. Who had the gaul to call him rude?
Faux is always rude, always, to any progressive or liberal. 'Bout time someone stood up to them. Hope Stamford gets all their grants!
