Here is an email the right wing is circulating on the stimulus bill
Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his economics
professor and says, "I don't understand
this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?"

The professor replied, "I don't have any time to explain it at my
office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my
weekend project, I'll be glad to explain it to you."

The student agreed. At the agreed-upon time, the student showed
up
at the professor’s house.

The professor stated that the weekend project involved his
backyard
pool. They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the
student a bucket.

Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go
over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you
can."
The student did as he was instructed.

The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end,
and then dump all the water from your bucket into it."

The student was naturally confused, but did as he was told.. The
professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and
began walking back to the deep end of the pool.

The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing
this?"
The professor matter-of-fact ly stated that he was trying to make the
shallow end much deeper. The student didn't think the economics
professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story
soon enough.

However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep
end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had
gone mad.

The student finally replied, "All we're doing is wasting valuable
time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process
is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all
you'll really have accomplished is the destruction of what could have
been
truly productive action!"

The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile,
"Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill."

4. If that's supposed to be an analogy it's the stupidest one I've ever read
The fucking pool is EMPTY. The purpose of the stimulus is to PUT SOME WATER IN IT.

6. Question
In your analogy, does water == money?

9. Yes.
Now please regale me with your explanation of how all the money is really still there. While you're at it remind us how awesome outsourcing is because Americans make too much money.

I did a search on you and, based on your posting history, I'm pretty sure I'm not interested in anything you have to say.

5. Yeah, this explains it perfectly. What a bunch of dumbasses.
No wonder we're in the mess we're in with them being in charge for so many years.

7. Except, every time you pour water in, you stimulate a production chain (multiplier factor)
So its rather, you fill up half the bucket with water in the pool, and use a hose to fill up the other half.

Fucking wingers try and make things so simple because they are so stupid.

11. That's a very good explanation.
I've yet to hear a cogent explanation from a freeper of what works better than government spending to stimulate a down economy.

8. So the Republi-morans think jobs re-building our faltering infrastructure is like
pouring the same bucket of water in a pool over and over? That we won't have anything to show for it afterwards? (unlike that idiotic war on iraq that got us exactly nothing)

Stupid, stupid.

10. Yeah, they had such great ideas
and they inspired such confidence that they won the White House last November in a landslide victory.

oops.

I guess they didn't win after all...

Criticism...that's all they've got. Oh, and they want to solve the problem by doing more of the same shit that helped get us here in the first place.

imbeciles!

12. Well gee whiz, then what's their problem?
If all the money that's being bucketed out of the deep end flows right back in when you pour it back in the shallow end, then the overrich motherfucker robber barons will make out just fine, and be completely restored to wholeness. So what's their beef?

Except for their unidimensional, oversimplistic and wrong view of this lame analogy that doesn't explain anything, I mean. I suppose if it made any sense at all, it wouldn't qualify for a right wing reactionary blast e-mail. Which means that you should look for some empty-headed hack on Fox or CNBC to use it as if it had any relation to the real world whatsoever, and then smile smugly as if they've just figured out the Grand Unified Theory of Everything.

13. No wonder we have such a mess on our hands...
For eight years these dumb shits have been in charge of the economy and for eight years they haven't been able to tell the difference between emptying the water out of the pool and dumping it on the ground and adding water to the pool from a nearby well.

14. I bet this is fake, all their toxic emails tend to start the same way with a story.
I would love some news organisation to have a look into this and try to find out if its true or false. I would guarantee it is 100% made up BS .
