Hey DUers, I am new here and I have a couple questions for the board.

I am 49 years old and unemployed, and I have a bad credit record because I had to file bankruptcy and bail out on a couple creit card debts. What are the odds I could get a small business loan from the Government.

I would also like to get some information on Government grants, does anyone know a website that is not a scam, with info on Government grants.

1. Find an SBDC office near you.

They have classes and free consulting that'll explain the loans and walk you through a business plan. Things have changed since I took mine, but if your bankruptcy was several years ago, and you're a woman, veteran or minority, your chances are better for the Govt guarantee on an SBA loan. You still have to find a bank to approve it, though. I think that may be the biggest challange for you.

2. To get a loan, the chances are next to none, unless....

you were a brilliant scientist who developed a time machine that allowed you to go back in time 2 years...then sure, yeah, you could get a business loan from anyone (two years ago).

What if I am brilliant scientist who developed a time machine, but it only goes back 1 year?
