India is now graduating more MBA's than us. Lots more.
After we move all of the support jobs, tech jobs, entertainment jobs (Bollywood is bigger than Hollywood)... why not the management jobs? (might as well have the production manager on the same continent as the production)
And if all the VPs and managers are in India, why not the CEOs as well?
I'm pretty sure that they won't be demanding million dollar salaries and multi-million dollar bonuses.
Only people left here will be sales (until they figure out that no one is buying any of their crap) and shipping (but only until there aren't any orders to fulfill).
It's the natural progression of the "race to the bottom".

and didn't think that much of it. Entertaining, yes, in spots, but not nearly as powerful as either "The Reader" or "Milk".
Anybody know the last time a film won Best Picture while NONE of the actors or actresses were even nominated for the twenty spots for Best and Supporting Actor/Actress Oscars?

Slumdog was a wonderful film. I'm very glad it's getting the recognition it so rightly deserves.

10. So, ten years from now, what scenes will people remember? |
|
From Titanic, those of us who saw it remember the grand chandelier, Rose standing on the side of the ship, her clinging to a door as Jack slipped away, and "I'm flying, Jack!"
Which scenes will stick out from Slumdog in that way? Memorable scenes almost always involve an actor or actress doing or saying something that likely has not been done or said before. I don't seem to recall anything like that from Slumdog.

could really be said that it was honoring the body of work that was the Rings trillogy. It's sort of like giving an Oscar to an aging actor or actress for a role that may not have been their very best, but it honors their entire career.

11. "Milk" was a powerful film |
|
and ever so relevant to our time, what with Prop H8 having just passed in the very state where the political battles of Harvey Milk were fought.
What is the message of Slumdog, that if you get lucky enough to get on a TV contest show (it never really showed exactly how that happened) and you are similarly lucky enough to have had life experiences that anticipate the questions you're going to get, you'll get to dance in the subway?

It's called entertainment. Many people prefer that to manifestos.

13. OK, I guess I just don't find poverty "entertaining" |
|
but, more power to those of you who do.
My idea of an entertaining movie without much of a message was The Dark Knight, but I guess even that had some sort of message if you looked hard enough.

14. maybe slumdog won because |
|
we are making appeasement with our new india overlords (keep those US CEOs happy with their slave labour workers who KEEP people in poverty).

15. You might have a point |
|
but in thinking about it today, perhaps there is something entertaining about seeing the rags-to-riches story that is a part of the life of the main character, and of India as a whole. I certainly remember my 4th grade teacher in the mid 1960's describing both China and India as "basket cases".
