The thread you've posted is really profound. It shows how vulnerable we are to the PTB, who seem to unite in
particular causes. What was Prescott Bush doing in WWII:

"In 1934 Prescott Bush sent W. Averell Harriman an article that appeared in the 19th March edition of the New York Times. The article claimed that the Polish government intended to take action against the Upper Silesian Coal and Steel Company because it was controlling 45% of its steel production. The newspaper reported that "two-thirds of the company's stock is owned by Friedrich Flick, a leading German steel industrialist, and the remainder is owned by interests in the United States". This of course was Bush, Harriman and Walker. The Polish government complained that the owners of the Upper Silesian Coal and Steel Company were guilty of tax evasion. They were also responsible for using Poland's raw materials to provide for the military needs of Nazi Germany.

Maybe DU has just gotten too big and things move too fast, but I think it's a damn shame we don't have threads like that any more. Sometimes I think that 90% of what I know now about the way the world works I learned in the course of 2004 -- and I've just been coasting ever since.

OMC - Aw, you're just allergic to hardcore feminists who won't let you get away with your sexist shit. WAIT A MINUTE -- when did you join DU? I don't think you were here when Eloriel was. I left in September 05.

To the rest of you with nice things to say about me: thank you so much. Means a lot to me and I miss you too, though I lurk frequently so I see YOU, you just don't see me.

arikara -- Yes, that thread totally broke my heart. That thread was the final straw of my disenchantment with DU. Rereading the whole thing brings it all back: the absolute horror of Katrina and the ensuing week; how impotent we all felt; the increasing certainty and PROOF (along with the accompanying nausea) that certain aspects of what the Feds were doing -- or not doing -- were entirely intentional. As one fabulous DUer I quoted said: "Incompetence gets you to Tuesday." And this thread of mine was posted about a week after Katrina hit. We'd been watching the horror unfold for all that week, with increasing horror. Thousands died, unnecessarily, from sheer, purposeful neglect. We never did get a body count, in large part because the Feds prevented that from happening too. And after all that psychic trauma, EarlG just shoved me aside. I can still feel the elbow in my ribs.

I also was pretty unhappy with his OP making me sound just dangerous, plus his refusal to correct himself, the record or apologize in any way. Perhaps I should've been grateful for his reconstruction -- but all I felt was trampled on, disregarded and betrayed. I never came back as Eloriel.

I did come back sometime later with a 2nd persona and eventually got tombstoned. Sometime after that I actually asked Skinner to reinstate me, but he didn't even see fit to give me the courtesy of a reply. That's what I've always loved about DU Admin: their grace and charm.

It's all good, though. I really don't have the time to get entagled in battling the likes of OMC or engaging in any other such inane wastes of time. And after years of making some seriously good contributions to the content at DU (yes, I'll admit it -- tho there were those who so seriously out-researched and out-analyzed me that my work absolutely pales in comparison), now I just reap the rewards of others' hard work. Works for me!
