They just don't seem to think they need them.

3. That's Not The Internet, That's AOL... |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 07:47 AM by KharmaTrain
Or as I call them...Assholes and Overweight Liars.
That's an old wingnut mantra...but then "retro" seems to be the way these asshats want to be these days. Retro 1983, definitely not the past 8 years...to them, that's a big black hole right now.
I used to play with AOL a decade ago...it was as bad as Freeperville. Looks like things haven't changed.
On Edit: The Overweight Liars remark pertains to the many people I knew who played around on that thing. Either cheating on a spouse or pretending to be someone they weren't.

But then the people who could get on the net from their TV started showing up and suddenly AOLers seemed, well, almost scholarly.

AOL was a lot of fun in the mid 90's...pretty much nothing but puter geeks out there and a lot of wild and crazy free spirits. People paid by the hour, so you limited your time. It changed when they went "ala carte" (I think in '98 or '99) and seems like the wingnuts all but invaded those message boards. It was brutal during the Clinton inquisition and the 2000 elections. A major reason when DU came around, I ended up here. I got sooooooo tired of the same old talking points and lies.
Cheers...

10. Yeah, my hubby at the time was an old school programmer (series 1, etc.) and |
|
first there was Pine, then Compuserve and then a very small stint on AOL but as the weird rush of idiots invaded, we left and I think that was around the time that Netscape became somewhat viable. My mind is older and I confabulate often, but yes, we have come a long way baby. I don't miss the yellow and green block letter monitors. I hated computers back then and was very reticent to learn and now, I can't quite wrap my mind around not having this amazing resource, though, I am falling behind. I don't get twitter and I'm a complete texting idiot (pretty much an idiot with my cell phone overall) so I may be settling into my niche and the future technology will just pass me by. Or not, we'll see.

I bought my first puter in 1986...2 5 1/2 in floppy drives...no hard drive or even a clock. It was a glorified word processor, but as a writer, it sure beat spending time with lots of white out. And when the boss wasn't looking, we were trying to crack "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy"...the text version.
It's amazing how this thing has transformed and continues to evolve. I joke that I started to listen to Rock 'n Roll in the early 60's as a little kid and got to witness that revolution, then saw a similar one in technology. This little box has opened up a fascinating world and it's been fun to have been along for the ride.
I'm not into the texting or Twitter thing...I just got a facebook page to intimidate my kids.
This world is still evolving, thus nothing really passes one by as much as you find your niche and grow...
Cheers...

11. There Was An Idiot On WJ This Morning. . . |
|
. . .that used that silly canard that conservatives think with their heads and liberals with their hearts.
Then, that fool started talking about Obama doing "Satan's work". Well, i would think that by definition, as soon as Satan comes into the conversation, one is thinking with one's heart not one's head. Since it's UNPROVABLE that God or Satan take an active role in the operation of governments, that would be a matter of faith, which is not a function of intellectual acuity. It's a function of the heart.
But, we hear that silliness over, and over, and over. GAC

think with our heart and as far as the other assertion, I see little to support conservatives thinking with any part of their body.

19. You're Asking For The Insane To Be Rational??? |
|
It's called "faith" for a reason. But don't dare say that to a fundie or wingnut. Actually, I take that back. I enjoy confronting them that way. Anytime religion gets thrown in to a "discussion", I say "prove it". You can hear the "discussion" come to a screetching halt. LOL.
Too many on the right are so indoctrinated with simplistic notions and talking points that its created a safe little cocoon for them to burrow in. They've been conditioned to explain away any and all that don't go along with their "undeniable truths" (look that up...an origination feature on the Rushbo show in 1988) that if they face the real truth, it would shatter that cocoon. Just as they've learned to believe up is down, their heads have been so contorted by hypocrisy and revisionism, it's now firmly planted in their anal sphincter muscle (look that one up, Freepers...LOL)

I found the Rushbo "undeniable truths". I actually got to confront him about them way back then. It's amusing to read now.. http://www.lectlaw.com/files/cur52.htm(I'd post them, but have respect for the greater good of the DU servers)

Just remove USSR and put in A-rab and this thing is almost up-to-date. Oh...and the Raiders did move back to Oakland.
At the time I asked him if it was the perogative of a talk show host to advocate for a political party or agenda, and he said "oh no, this is to stir up debate". Yeah, right. This was September, 1988...dare I say I was at Ground Zero for what would become hate radio, and a big reason I got away from it.
Cheers...
On Edit: Be thankful I didn't post the Jeff Chrstie pics...Rushbo as a high flying jock at KQV in the early 70s

9. Kinda reminds me of an oldie but goodie: |
|
One day a man walked by a kid who had a box of tiny puppies for sale with a sign that said, Republican puppies for sale cheap and the man thought that was so cute. Two weeks later he walked by the same kid who still had the box of puppies for sale but now the sign said Democratic puppies for sale and the man just had to stop and ask, "why the change?". "well," said the kid, "two weeks ago, their eyes weren't open so of course they were Republicans but now, with their eyes open, they've seen the error of their ways!"
