Electing Democrats in batshit crazy right wing congressional districts .......
.... will only happen if we get people like Heath Shuler to run.

Not my favorite guy. But consider this ...... he helps with the count in Congress.

But wait, as they say in the infomercials, there's more.

Having the worst Democrat will at least get the perception out there that it is okay to vote Democrat. That alone is big. Let it go a few cycles and soon enough we can get one more toward, at least, the middle. That will take time. But it *can* happen.

1. For instance: Ken Salazar made it possible for Mark Udall to win a statewide race in CO
I've thought along those lines for awhile.

5. I guess the question remains, when is a Democrat not acceptable?
Who makes such a decision? If they vote with Republicans more than Democrats I guess we would have a clue..Just because they have the label Democrat after their name does not make them automatically acceptable IMO.

6. So .... you want a repub if you can't get your way?
The issue is in specifically hard core right wing areas. Like ...... oh I dunno ...... the 11th district of North Carolina?

But you knew that. And simply wanted to reply with your silly little example anyhow.

Right?

4. Yes indeed.
A Democrat you can agree with 80% of the time is better than a Republican you can agree with 20% of the time.

8. if only Shuler voted with us 80% the time.....
He has a lifetime score of 40 (out of 100) from ProgressivePunch....which throws out all of the fluffy votes like "Congratulating X for Y"

He's a dyed-in-the-wool reactionary.

10. I am not defending him in the least ...... but I have to ask ....
.... would you rather a repubican?

But all that is beside the point. The **point** is that even a batshit crazy right winger like him at least make the local population accpeting of the term "Democrat" .... and in many of the right wing, batshit crazy districts, that, all alone, is a noticeable improvement.

No, I am *NOT* defending Shuler.

11. how about funding Dems in all of the moderate districts.....which the DCCC failed to again
They refused to fund progressive Dems in moderate districts who definitely had a shot...like Annette Taddeo, Sam Bennett, etc.

Instead they focus on funding right-wing Dems in right-wing districts....like Shuler, Bobby Bright, and Parker Griffith.

12. That's great ..... in 'moderate' districts ....... and I agree with you about the DCCC
I preferred Dean's 50 State plan over the DCCC plan ..... but that's all beside the point.

My POINT is that even the worst is better than a repub.

That's NOT saying we should try for the worst. It is just saying that if that's where we end up, we're still better off.

13. I'd rather have a Republican in those districts if it meant that money would go towards real Dems
