3. Folks need to let the outrage on this go.
Journalistic style dictates that the first reference of the President, is "President Obama" and the following references are either "Mr. Obama" or "The President."

It is professional, long-established and perfectly fine that Couric called him "Mr. Obama."

However, there is another thread where some are defending Tweety for calling him "Barack" and that is not OK.

4. As some knowledgeable DU'ers explained before, the first time you mention POTUS
the title "president" should be used but one can drop it thereafter for "mister"

6. You use 'President' only as the first reference. Afterwards, 'Mr.'
Journalistic tradition going back before FDR.

8. Either one is fine. "Mister" is uniquely American--we're not royal.
It's use of the last name all by itself, as some papers do when referring to criminals, that is offensive.

10. All presidents have been addressed as "Mr."
In a supposedly egalitarian country, this is how they're referred to by the press. He might be called "Mr President" in person, but he's "Mr. Obama or "the president" in the press.

Only a few have insisted on being called President in the press, most notably the last illegal occupant of the White House.

Still, the correct form is "Mr.___."

12. Doens't Bother Me
I think NPR had a peice about this awhile back. In any particular article or segment they call him President Obama the first time they reference him and Mr. Obama after that.

I don't think it's disrespectful.

20. Yeah, but Bush tried to have "President of the United States" tatooed on his dick. (Sadly ...
he only got as far as "Pre". The jug-eared little prick enjoyed playing dress-up. He never had the desire, the intention, or the ability to actually govern.

18. No, you're wrong Mister is proper
etiquette. There is no point in getting your bowels in an uproar over something that is proper, there is enough real issues to get outraged over without making something over nothing.
