In the end, all this DC Voting Rights Act will accomplish is an extra Republican Congressman
The Senate today invoked cloture and will move to vote on a bill to grant the District of Columbia a seat in the House of Representatives, while offsetting this all but certain Democratic pickup with a new congressional seat added to Utah's delegation.

This bill just seems unconstitutional on its face. Congress cannot just decide on a whim to grant full membership to a person representing an entity that is not a state.

It seems obvious to me at least, that the courts will declare that it was unconstitutional for Congress to give DC a vote in Congress, but nothing there is nothing illegal about giving Utah the extra seat. I can't imagine why that portion of the law would be invalidated.

So at the end of the day, the Republicans will gain one seat in the House, and the people of DC will be left out in the cold again.

We need to start a constitutional amendment process, and do this the right way. The people of DC deserve better, and this half-assed measure isn't good for anybody.
