Piyush Jindal's comment on volcanoes has me in a muddle.
Is one more liberal if one wishes volcanoes to be monitored?

Or is one less liberal?

Also, I was kind of thrilled, in a cheap Hollywood sort of way, at the ghost train proposal between Disneyland and Las Vegas.

1. I suspect folks in Republican Wyoming and Montana would like for us to monitor Yellowstone caldera

5. Yes. I'm wondering how Piyush Jindal would feel about this.
He seems to be in an even greater muddle on the topic than I am.

24. I'm sure he is also against the wasted money spent monitoring hurricanes as well.

19. Everyone, everywhere would like us to monitor it. If that sucker goes up we're all going to be
in a world of trouble.

3. Volcanoes need their privacy, too.
All of this monitoring is just plain wrong.

4. $140 million seems cheap to me.
I'm sure the cost of monitoring hurricanes is more. And the train thing, while BS, would probably be a real moneymaker.

7. Yep. It' awfully difficult sometimes to follow the GOP's instincts on
the economy and the culture.

8. Well, I'm guessing that if Jindal doesn't want to monitor volcanoes...
he should have no problem if we stop monitoring hurricanes. They sure as fuck don't affect me in Minnesota, and I guarantee we'd save a lot more than $140 million. C'mon, Repukes - try and propose it!

10. Piyush Jindal should consider your comment. If volcanoes are no big
deal in regions where there are volcanoes then how about hurricane magnets like the Gulf Coast.

Yo Piyush Jindal. Hurricanes. Rain and lots of it. Wind and lots of it. Flood surge and lots of it.

9. Living close to Yellowstone, Havocdad says hurricane monitoring is a waste of taxpayer $$
Well, he doesn't actually believe that, but would like to make the point to gulf coast guvs that not everyone has the same concerns, but we all make up America and should strive to take care of America's needs.

22. Good luck in trying to make points with Right-Wing Authoritarian Followers.
Of course, you and I know there's an awful lot more to Montana than just Right-Wing Authoritarian Followers.

As I am fond of telling people, "Montana isn't like the rest. It's isn't a typical idiotic corrupt Red State."

You made your point, but as you well know, facts and logic and points bounce of the armor of the Hannidiot mind like spitballs against a Panzer.

I hope you and havocdad are doing well. :hi:

One other thing, have I ever shared this text with you? If you read it, you won't regret it. Extremely powerful, true ,and scientifically valid (though the book is the condensation of twenty+ years of data translated into laymen's terms) insight therein.

23. Tom, lad! You should know: Last night, here in Redsville on the Prairie...
There was not ONE car rolling around town during President Obama's (GODS, I love writing that phrase) speech. Shortly there after, the whirling disease kicked back in and the population was driving around in circles again.

Havocdad said they are 'a bunch of pussy closet Democrats'! But he was sure there will be a few die-hard cracker wingers pissin and moanin about DEMS & the 'gubmint' by noon Wednesday. He simply cannot wait for the new President's picture to arrive at the ol office.

Personally, I think an awful lot of them are secretly scared to death of the mess the GOP has made of America, and hoping Obama pulls their fat outta the fire PDQ. Few would admit it, but I do think they are praying they were wrong and Obama will get 'er done.

Remind me to tell you about the idiot who fears that Obama having a blackberry will = all of us getting junk text messages and porn via our cell phones. It's a doozy of a theory! :eyes:

Thanks for link/reading material. Will be great read this evening.

:hi: from the shadow of Yellowstone's Plume where things are doing OK.

how about we unleash rabid animals to roam the countryside as well?

20. Typical dishonest Republican...
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 10:51 AM by SidDithers
from the scienceblog link posted above, the $140 million is actually for the entire USGS:

US Geological Survey

For an additional amount for ''Surveys, Investigations, and Research'', $140,000,000, for repair, construction and restoration of facilities; equipment replacement and upgrades including stream gages, and seismic and volcano monitoring systems; national map activities; and other critical deferred maintenance and improvement projects.

Cheap theatre to try to score political points. Hope it comes back to bite him in the ass.

21. Monitoring the volcanoes, especially if the government does it,
interferes with the free market! It interferes with God's plan! Erupting volcanoes are the sign of the end of days, not something to be monitored by mere human scientists!
