Ok, then...Calling him Piyush is like calling Jeb Jerry |
|
Is this analogy correct?
Both are attempts to mask one's origin for whatever reason. "Jeb" is more folksy than Jerry. "Bobby" is more folksy than Piyush. "Dylan" is more folksy than Zimmerman.
I see no reason why critics have to refrain from exposing this tactic.

1. Because it's racist.... somehow. |
|
I don't understand myself, but I'm sure that's what would be thrown in the critics' faces.

2. Was Dylan honoring poet Dylan Thomas in his choice? |
|
That seems to reach high and in the case of Bob Zimmerman, aptly high.
Piyush Jindal dipped a lot lower on that continuum to get Bobby Brady.

8. And speaking of getting the hang of toilets, another Louisiana Republican, |
|
Dave Vitter, comes to mind.
"Barney the Dinosaur" -- LOL. As a Republican, though, he would have chosen 'Dinosaur' instead of 'Barney.'

5. iirc Bobby Zimmerman did take his name from Dylan Thomas. |
|
I have no idea where I picked up that piece of information, but I seem to have known it for about as long as I've known who Bob Dylan is. And at my age, that means for about as long as there has been a Bob Dylan.

7. Hi, Jackpine Radical. Thank you for that info. Dylan has been kind |
|
of a force of nature for me, too. And he chose well in Dylan Thomas.
Two great poets.

6. "Mask" origin? Nonsense. How about "fit in with the prevailing culture?" |
|
He was FOUR YEARS OLD when he chose that nickname.
And he picked BOBBY off the BRADY BUNCH, not because it was a Loo-see-anna "folksy" name.
If you take issue with Bobby Jindal on the issues, that's one thing. Going after him about the nickname he has had since before he went to kindergarten suggests a pretty slimy and undemocratic agenda that borders on xenophobia.

Point 2: 4 years old? So what? Point 3: Brady Bunch? So what? Point 4: Oh, wait...no more points.

24. Point One--You're being deliberately obtuse and xenophobic. |
|
That's the only point that needs to be made here, save that most Democrats would be ashamed of behaving in that fashion.

He's repub because he's greedy and probably hateful towards large swaths of diverse people. He is 'Bobby' because his voting base he is appealing to is racist; he CANNOT BE A REPUB NAMED PIYUSH.

11. I can't see the point in using a name Jindal, himself, |
|
doesn't use. Heck, I hope he is the GOOP candidate, and I hope Sarah Palin is his running mate, or vice-versa. It would demonstrate the paucity of leadership the Republican Party can offer the nation.
Just let him speak. That'll be enough. Let Sarah Palin speak, too. That worked out pretty well last November, I think.

12. Jindal, apparently ashamed of his ethnic name as a child, chose "Bobby" based on ... |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 09:53 AM by TahitiNut
... Bobby Brady of "The Brady Bunch" on TV. (Sadly, it's not all that unusual for a person of color to try to "pass.") It seems Jindal continues to be ashamed of his ethnic name, even though he's never changed it legally.
He's an ass. (Asses come in all races, religions, genders, and ethnicities.)

16. It's a tactic because REPUBLICANS ARE RACIST |
|
and he knows it. That is why he held on to a nickname adopted to fit in as a child through college and career, because he'd be a Dem by now if he was 'Piyush'.

I've always cringed a little at "Jimmy" Carter and "Bill" Clinton, but how they wish to be addressed, and so be it. On the other hand, referring to Nixon as "Millhouse" was just good, clean fun.

When this shit is coming from both sides of the isle, you know this country has a serious freakin problem.
