You know those bar bets that you can not win? "Made in the USA" |
|
You sit there at a bar and some sober asshat comes in and makes a silly bet with you. Whatever it is you can't win, and you'll probably look like a fool trying. They look so easy on their face but of course they are fool's bets that can't be won.
Here's one: I'd bet that you could not buy all the parts necessary to assemble either a new Chevrolet, Dodge, or Ford car using only parts "Made in America".
Couldn't be done, I'd bet a beer on it any day of the week.

1. I fooled myself on that recently - Bought a spot welder at Harbor Freight Tools |

Out of curiousity (not a factor in my buying decision) I looked at the shipping box while I was in the store. I thought it said "Made in America". I thought that was odd, but not important.
When I got home I took a closer look.
It said "Made in Armenia".

2. That's been true for a long time. |

Outsourcing automotive components is a time-honored thing. Even the nuts and bolts holding the car together are made outside the USA.

3. I don't see the big deal. We don't have to make everything |
|
No country does. If you look at the labels, you will see plenty made in the USA. Or that the labels and the originating company are in the U.S. Just because the actual manufacturing is in China or wherever also does not mean that the product is not being sold in countries other than the US. This is a false outrage.
