Northern Trust parties on the taxpayers dime and all Barney Frank can say is for them to return to the Treasury at least as much as they spent on their star-studded LA Bailout Bash!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jia_j0ntxn4

On this video you will see David Schuster say that Frank said that Northern Trust should give back the $1.6 Billion it received from taxpayers. But I just watched him say on MSNBC moments ago (from a taped comment) that they should (paraphrasing) "at least pay back the money that was spent on this party".

http://www.tmz.com/2009/02/24/northern-trust-bank-bailout/

A bank that received $1.6 billion in bailout money just spent a fortune last week in L.A. hosting a series of lavish parties and concerts with famous singers ... and TMZ cameras caught it all.

Northern Trust, a Chicago-based bank, sponsored the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club in L.A. We're told Northern Trust paid millions to sponsor the PGA event which ended Sunday, but what happened off the golf course is even more shocking.

Northern Trust flew hundreds of clients and employees to L.A. and put many of them up at some of the fanciest and priciest hotels in the city. We're told more than a hundred people were put up at the Beverly Wilshire in Bev Hills, and another hundred stayed at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. Still more stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey and others at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.

-snip-

I'M SICK OF THIS GODDAMNED SHIT!!! PROSECUTE SOMEBODY!

EDITED TO ADD: Thank you Sen. Kerry!

EDITED AGAIN TO REMOVE KNEE-JERK REACTIONS because I'm not a US citizen who has the right to criticize any Democrat on this website. I'm just supposed to praise and adore all Dems no matter how I feel.

7. Edited to add "sick and tired". You're
railing against Frank when there are so many other people to rail against. But I'm sure that will be lost on you.

Goodbye. I don't need the heartburn.

8. Yes, Barney Frank is up against many powerful people - he's doing the right thing - support him
and he will be more bold.

As for me, I am still having a very difficult time forgiving Harry Reid for NOT filibustering EITHER Robert's or Alito's confirmations. You want to talk consequences? When these court cases come up before the Supreme Court, WE WILL LOSE. Not the least of which is because of BOTH "Alito" and "Roberts" votes. The Supreme Court is chock full of right wing federalists.

5. Huh?
If Barney Frank's very cogent comment has you outraged, I do hope you somehow manage to find your Happy Place, because, my friend, you're going ballistic about something else, and it's not Barney Frank.

Good luck.

10. How many of these parties
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 10:33 AM by Subdivisions
thrown on the taxpayers dime do we have to tolerate? Give back the money they spent on the party? That is OUTRAGEOUS! Why hasn't anyone been prosecuted? Why is there no justice? Why are we having to pay for these bailout junkets? Why isn't Barney Frank more outraged than I am at these banks' bullshit?

You're right, it's not just Barney Frank I'm going ballistic about. But he isn't helping matters.

18. I know, honey - I know
It's like the final straw. Except there's another final straw, and then another, and then another.

What is Barney Frank gonna say? He can't get the money back - so he offered up the next best thing.

I've been opposed to all the bank bailouts from the beginning. I wrote to my representatives, called, emailed, did all I could, but they voted for them. I likened them to this situation (and maybe you'll get a smile out of this):

You throw a dinner party. One of the guests slaughters all the people in the house except you. Then he walks and gets acquitted at trial.

Do you then throw another dinner party and invite him back?

That's what the legislators have done with these banking vampires, and all the money they're throwing at them will not fix anything. I am really afraid of what happens next.

But, in the meantime, try to relax. Life sucks bad enough without letting the news make us crazy.

Here. I'll give you the beer-swilling pussycat, always good for a laugh:

9. Punish Those Who Planned The Party, Not The Customers
Most of that 1.6 billion goes to secure assets in that bank...to make sure there isn't a run or that you or anyone else who has an account at that bank can get access to ALL of their money. Pull the rug and watch millions get wiped out. Would that make you happy?

We're headed for nationalization and with it will come a major housecleaning of the crooks and selfish bastards who got us into this financial mess. Break the banks up...that's fine. Reregulate to the hilt. But don't kick those already suffering at this point and have their life savings and homes tied up in that bank. Punish those who abuse...and prosecute if they've broken laws.

17. Tell That To Andrew Cuomo...
...and a bunch of other AGs that are digging into this mess. Remember, until 4 weeks ago, we had a Tresaury that abetted this corruption as well as all that went on for the past 30 years.

Their day is coming...if not at the hands of the law, than by angry stockholders and investors/depositors who have plenty of grounds to sue these banks into submission. As Keith Olbermann says this scandal will one day be known as "How Daddy Went To Jail".

But first things first...make the financial system solvent for those who did play by the rules...who have their life savings in these banks to be secured and start credit flowing again so businesses...especially the small ones, can start generating a recovery we all benefit from.

16. I think it's funny that our incompetent managment team (Congress) has the gall
to mete out management advice to anyone.

The financial situation/management of all these banks is vastly superior to that of our Treasury over the last 30 years.
