I unloaded on a co-worker last night. It felt good.
I work in a baitshop/convenience store. We have an indoor fishing barge out back that’s quite popular. A new hire was working with me as his mentor until he learns the mechanics of closing out the register etc.

He took a smoke break and checked out the fishing barge. When he came back inside he commented on one fisherman who had several large Carp, saying, ’You know how those Meskins are, they’ll eat anything.” I let is slide ‘cause nobody wants dissension at work.

A little later a customer walked around the store and newbie says to me, ‘You sure can tell he’s a queer.’ Again I let it slide.

Then President Obama was featured on the local news show on the TV we have for monitoring weather etc. ‘He’s going to raise all our prices for food and stuff.’ I said really? Why is that? Newbie says, ‘Because he’s a black.”

I lost it. I got right in his face and fairly yelled, ‘I don’t want to hear about Meskins, niggers or queers from you, OK? I find it offensive and won’t tolerate it.’

Then I took a break.

2. "Indoor fishing barge out back"?
I understand the words, but "indoor fishing barge" does not summon any logical pictures.

4. It's a floating dock with a building on it--walls roof etc. Large holes in
the floor for fishing. It's heated for winter use and lighted for night fishing.

5. i have done that. let things slide. my family talks rather offensively sometimes.
and sometimes i will speak up, and sometimes i don't. Some people it won't matter how much you tell them, they will still do it. But I have vehemently spoken up whenever my child(ren) are anywhere near earshot of that kind of talk. i won't tolerate it around my kids!! good for you for speaking up, though. it's tough because you have to work with these people. but you also have to realize that these people they are deriding are customers, and perhaps the boss might not like hearing that his employees are treating customers inappropriately. if a customer heard this guy talking like that, they might complain.

6. SILENCE IS CONSENT.
However, as one to whom such spew is directed, there is much nuance that must be taken into consideration. Thanks for standing up for your kids.

8. I admire you for having the control to even stay in that area.
I've lived in "red hell" before and had to leave or wind up in jail. They're just everywhere.

9. Good for you. There is no mincing around with such dimwits and haters.
Just get in their face and tell them, NO! :applause:

11. I don't let the first one slide
I nip it in the bud as soon as I hear or even suspect bigotry.

A few weeks back a newer guy at work showed me his newest tattoo. It said something along the lines of, Proud of Race. 'OK, I said, what does that mean' I asked. He said that he was white and he was proud of that. Again I said, 'OK then tell me this, are you one of those arian white supremacist racist types? Because if you are you do know I'll have to hate you.'

Talk about back pedaling he said, 'no no no no I'm not like that I'm proud to be of Italian heritage.' I said, good because I will not tolerate bigotry and racism of any sort.
