George Will on Obama speech: "I Don't Know When Men Started To Hug Each Other"
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 01:51 PM by Julius Civitatus
Seriously. George Will, a living caricature of WASP conservative aloofness and detachment has the gall to complain about how other people "hug too much".

Will's "final thought" on Obama speech: "I don't know when men started to hug each other, but hug they do, and look at that"

Asked for a "final thought" on the president's speech last night, conservative columnist George WIll chose to focus on the fact that Obama was able to wrap his arms around another man, in friendship. "I don't know when men started to hug each other, but hug they do, and look at that," he said. Wise words. Watch:

Where do people like George Will come from?

And when he complains about "men hugging too much", does he mean these people?

Poor Lil' George . . . nobody cares about Reagan anymore, nobody cares about Nancy, either, and flat-out bald-faced lies about global warming aren't enhancing his credibility.

Sounds like he's down to his last wank.

18. If you didn't live in Washington,
you might not remember a time back during the early years of the Reagan administration when George Will, that bow-tied paragon of virtue, got caught by his wife having an affair with some other woman. This was at a time when the Wills were also taking care of their special needs son, Down Syndrome, as I recall.

Mrs. Will threw his clothes out on the front lawn and refused to let him come into the house. Will send his staffers to get his belongings and slunk off to his girlfriend's house. I believe they're married now, and we might ask George Will when married men started dicking women they weren't married to? Was it around the same time that men started hugging men?

Tony Soprano might show George Will what a real hug is like.

15. You know, I don't despise George Will.
All around, he's one of the least despicable right-wing droning heads in media, and on some issues (economics, chiefly), he's downright not-awful. But this comment sounds more Pat Buchanan than George Will. But which I mean slightly age-addled and out of touch with mainstream... humanity. I bet he used to shake his mother's hand goodnight.

Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 02:29 PM by CTyankee
Will will say something he seems "definite" about with the economy and Krugman says "Actually, that's not true.." and goes on to demolish him. This happened several times last Sunday...it was like, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat...the guy never gets it. He's mouthing off about the economy with the winner of the NOBEL frikkin PRIZE in Economics, fer chrissakes. If I were him, I'd shut up.

19. This comment belies an intrensic homophobia. What a very sad comment by Will.
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 02:13 PM by keopeli
Of the myriad political topics from which he might choose to comment, he singles out the nascent development of affection between men in our society.

In many other cultures (Peru leaps to mind, as does many Latin American countries, as well as India and some middle eastern countries), men can be seen holding hands as they walk, kissing each other and displaying public affection between male friends.

Our culture thinks it's "gay" for men to show affection for other men, or at least it has. I'm so glad to see us start moving past the homophobic, machismo stoicism of our past.

I once visited with George Will at a dinner party. He's a very bright man, but he seems to me to have deep seeded (sic?) issues with liberals that goes beyond politics and into the personal. Still, among modern conservatives, he's far from the worst of his generation. As I recall, we only shook hands - no hugging was had.

I can only conclude that this comment was an effort to reinforce his bona fides with conservatives after excoriating Bush for his many bumbles and buffoonery. Will is a reflection of the wealthy industrialist wing of the Republic Party.
