Chuck Grassley (R-Asshole) worried about people viewing porn at work
Yep, this is exactly what the govt. needs to spend precious time & money on...Another kooky idea from the wacky world of social conservatives...

If Will Rogers were alive today, he'd probably say he never met a social conservative that he liked...(wasn't he the guy who said he never met a man he didn't like)...

Of course, the article comes from the biggest fucking RW rag paper, the Moonie Times...

1. He needs to be more concerned with the number of people
viewing DU at work. ;-) That's a bigger threat to him.

3. Actually, despite the source and the person, this is a problem at work
One that is getting worse. People aren't just viewing porn, but doing all sorts of non work related computer activities while at work. Not to mention cell phones, texting and Tweeting. In some places I've seen, work seems to be coming in second as a priority rather than the actual work.

10. On the flip side, for many people work hours never end
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 08:49 AM by cobalt1999
People are still responding to work emails late in the evening, weekends, & vacations.

Laptops, cell phones, and mobile devices are blurring the line between working and free time. Yes, there are some personal activities occurring during working hours, but also a lot of working going on during free time.

18. I don't think loafing is anything new - technology is more advanced
with the internet, cell phones, etc. that wasn't around 15 years ago, but people have always had some way of taking a break (aka loafing, lol) at work...Whether it was taking a smoke break, hanging out at the water cooler, taking that extended lunch, etc..

19. True, but those time killers didn't involve exposing your co-workers to shit they didn't want to see
Sorry, but even though I'm a guy, I don't want to walk in and see one of my coworkers ogling some porn site.

Plus, I think that the actual quantity of time wasted has gone up with the advent of all this new tech. Texting, computers, etc. allows one to be much more covert in your time wasting activities. Hell, there are programs out there that help you do just that.

4. ironic, since viewing most porn is consistent with "Limbaugh Republican" values . . .
ignoring economic and material reality of women and children trafficked in the making of it (80% of world's trafficked persons are sex slaves, and you can bet that at least 80% of Balkan, Turkish, Latina, and Asian porn involves some of those people), deriving pleasure either from their use and sometimes their abuse irrespective of their conditions, feeling entitled to evaluate other humans on standards you'd never dream anyone would apply to you, compartmentalizing your behavior so you can claim lofty values and push repressive policies on the one hand while engaging in behavior that grossly violates what others think you believe, stereotyping people into gross ethnic and racial categories so that all African Americans are wild animals and Asian women are passive objects who barely register pain . . .

5. Grassley is always getting himself involved in government ethics
My mom works for a government agency and there is always something that Grassley is making a big deal about. He has been concerned about pornography as of late. An employee reported to their supervisor that one of their colleauges was always looking at pornography on his government computer. My mother had to have one of the investigators look into this. My mom felt that having an investigator sit at a computer for a week viewing the porn sites was not really necessary. Her opinion was that looking at porn on your government computer is not appropriate, but that if the person is getting good performance ratings and getting his work done then he should just be issued a disciplinary letter that warns of larger consequences if caught again. Grassley wants there to be huge investigations and prosecutions which burden the agency.

14. Which is why he wants government to stop it
The download times are just getting ridiculous!

Besides, it's just too hard for companies to get their IT guys to restrict access so that porn sites can't be viewed on their networks. So let's write a law to "ban" it! Good luck with that, Mr. Grassley.

12. if they are looking at porn at work
isn't that the concern/responsibility of the employer and not "big gummint"

I would be more concerned about the obscenity of bank bailout bonuses than employees oggling boobs

21. A Bill to Find a Non Existant Problem
As one of the people at my office who can monitor what people are doing on our internet, I can say that looking at porn is pretty much a non-issue at my office. Then again, our staff is about 75% female. Just more Republican vagina-phobia I think.

22. we had an employee that had downloaded over 2000 porn pictures on
company computer. also got fired cause he was non productive.

he gave me the creeps. never liked the guy. liked him a whole hell of a lot less knowing he would have a naked woman with legs spread on his screen as i said "good morning" to him.

it makes for a very uncomfortable environment for most women. you may see it as mere silliness that anyone should be bothered with it, but it is not the case for a lot of us.

my husband, a computer guy has had calls to clean up computers from other businesses.
