Do others get as angry as I do when one of those "hock your car for cash" ads comes on?

As another thread mentions, there are also leeches springing up to "help" people find work.

It seems that worsening economic times brings out the worst kind of exploiters in American society. But hey, the private sector is so much better than gubmint in doing right by people.

Repuke values in action.

1. And the "get a loan until your next paycheck comes in" and the check cashing places
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 09:17 AM by Rabrrrrrr
that take 10% of the amount of the check, or whatever ridiculous amount they charge.

That loan company that "What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis" guy does commercials for charges 99% interest. It's right there in the fine print at the end of the commercial. NINETY NINE PERCENT!!!

I'd love to see Obama take those leeches down.

3. My top five
1) Reverse mortgage. VERY few people should consider this.

2) Hock your next paycheck. If you can't afford it now, you probably can't afford it in a week.

3) Hock your car. Read the fine print, they WILL take your car, and then how will you get to work to earn the money you need to pay your bills.

4) Cash in your annuity/structured settlement. You're betting you can do better investing than the pro's.

5) "Rent to own". Look into their business model. They don't really expect you to ever own it.

2. Sign Of The Times...Predatory Lending Is Rampant...
Just consider these the modern equivelent of the pawn shop...a business that always does well in tough times.

The thing that has bothered me for years are the payday loan places....charging obscene fees and interest rates for a cash advance. Some may argue that those who use these places know what they're asking for or are selfish or just want to drink or gamble it away. But I've known too many people who've been caught in a bad spot...needed to get cash quickly and had to rely on these vultures.

Right now it's a great time to be a predator...no caps on interest rates and little protection for the consumer. I'm not offended by these places since I will never go near one or have a need for one...but it does show how greedy our society is.

5. Oh man, I am sick of the job scams out there
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 09:47 AM by notadmblnd
I wrote one just last week and told them that they ought to be ashamed of them selves, taking advantage of people who can least afford to be scammed. However, I wasn't that nice about it. Career Builder and Snag a job dot com seems to be the worst
