Elizabeth Hasselbeck wants to choose for herself what she does with her body!! |
|
Well, when it comes to organ donation, anyway. They were discussing organ donation this morning and Joy Behar offered up the idea that instead of opting in to organ donation on your drivers licence, you can opt out instead. Elizabeth hasselbeck went crazy over the idea of the 'government' taking her organs because she didn't opt out. She doesn't want 'the government' to take her organs!! she wants control over what happens to her body.
Umm... my first thought was about abortion and how she wants the government to control MY BODY when it comes to my choice to have a baby or not. Now, I find this fascinating that these two opposite ideas can exist in the same mind, but these folks are full of contradictions.
Am I making too much of this? I know i can get a little over zealous on things, but to me it is about a person's choice when it comes to their own body. am i wrong??

1. ooh, let's talk about opt-out policies for organ donation |
|
That's a good way to get some  going.
But yes, you would think that Hasselback would want full control over her body while she's living, and wouldn't care so much what happens to it after she dies.

15. Yup. Interesting framing. The 'body' becomes PROPERTY of the next of kin upon death. |
|
It's interesting to see how PROPERTY trumps PERSONAL in the right wing imbecile's mind.

2. Because when your dead you have a huge, huge need |
|
for those organs. When you die you pretty much lose control over everything that happens to you. It's almost like your dead or something and people won't listen to you anymore.

3. I think taking ANYTHING said on that show seriously means you're taking things too seriously |
|
None of those people are relevant.
Turn off the TV.
It's all crap meant to distract you from the important stuff and force you to watch ads for crap you don't need.
Just turn off the TV.
What Elizabeth whatever her name is says simply DOES NOT MATTER.

7. No, you're not wrong. Problem is SHE and the rest of the (R)'s are so clueless |

that they can't even identify their own hypocritical-ness.

8. You're not making too much of this or being overzealous.... |
|
While I agree with EH on the opt-out thing, it's her hypocritical reasoning that drives me nuts.
And the arrogance with which she spews it. She's stupid and she thinks she's smart, besides her anti-choice indoctrination, I think that bugs me just as much!

14. it wasn't about the opt in opt out thing for me. i tend to think it's better the way it is. |
|
family members can also tell what you would have wanted. it was the reasoning she used that was all about her choosing what she does with HER body that stunned me. that's right, elizabeth.... it's about your right to choose for YOURSELF.

But those two ideas exist very easily in her mind, because there's lots and lots of free space there.

17. She's an idiot, but c'mon, the debate isn't that simple |
|
I'm ferociously pro-choice, but over simplifying and/or ignoring the crux of the anti-abortion position to make that dimwit appear more hypocritical is unneccesary. Simply put, to our side, it all about personal choice, to their side it is about making a choice for another person. For all the rhetoric and emotion, the entire abortion debate isn't about choice, it is about when that fetus transforms into a person with rights.
