GROUPS REQUEST SPECIAL PROSECUTOR FOR BUSH, CHENEY, et alia
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/prosecutorstatement

Statement on Prosecution of Former High Officials

We urge Attorney General Eric Holder to appoint a non-partisan independent Special Counsel to immediately commence a prosecutorial investigation into the most serious alleged crimes of former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Richard B. Cheney, the attorneys formerly employed by the Department of Justice whose memos sought to justify torture, and other former top officials of the Bush Administration.

Our laws, and treaties that under Article VI of our Constitution are the supreme law of the land, require the prosecution of crimes that strong evidence suggests these individuals have committed. Both the former president and the former vice president have confessed to authorizing a torture procedure that is illegal under our law and treaty obligations. The former president has confessed to violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

We see no need for these prosecutions to be extraordinarily lengthy or costly, and no need to wait for the recommendations of a panel or “truth” commission when substantial evidence of the crimes is already in the public domain. We believe the most effective investigation can be conducted by a prosecutor, and we believe such an investigation should begin immediately.

1. Went to see what the rules say.
Expected to read they don't take a stance such as this. But, since they say the following instead, I voted, "yes".

Democratic Underground (DU) was founded on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2001, to protest the illegitimate presidency of George W. Bush and to provide a resource for the exchange and dissemination of liberal and progressive ideas.
...
However, you will get the satisfaction of knowing that as long as there are conservative idiots, Democratic Underground will be here to hold them accountable (and maybe even make fun of them).

2. thank you. have not received any other obvious issues... tho someone pointed out we may
may not be considered a "Group." Seems that's up to Admin.

There's at least one other Discussion Board signed on to the Group statement.

4. I think if there's a "petition" going round, that individuals, not groups, should sign it
If the United Auto Workers signed on, you'd know damn well that not every UAW worker agreed with that. Groups that are any good aren't lockstep borgbots. It's a fake solidarity--sure, most of the people in the group might be for the measure, but it's never a hundred percent.

I think if the admins are behind it, they should encourage the membership to sign a petition individuals. That's probably a more effective strategy, anyway. "My Name is Joe Blow and I am a voter and I support this" is more meaningful, to me, than "The Association of People I've Never Heard of Supports this initiative."

JMO. YMMV.

"if endorsements can be problematic...." so far no input to that effect has arrived.

If even the concept or option were offensive or problematic for DU Admin, I think they would have communicated that to this or the linked thread.

Thank you for your concerns and your comment. :hi: Glad I found an "other" options that resonates even if it's a "suck up" :spray:

13. MADDOW: you support a call for a criminal investigation, potential investigation.PELOSI: Absolutely
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=5134310&mesg_id=5134310

MADDOW: Then in terms of your report, if the inspector general report that comes out this summer suggests that there has been criminal activity at the official level on issues like torture, or wireless wiretapping, or rendition, or any of these other issues...

PELOSI: No one is above the law. I think I have said that.

MADDOW: ... you support a call for a criminal investigation, potential investigation.

PELOSI: Absolutely.
