"Joe" the "Plumber" attracts 11 to book-signing. Sells 5 books.
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 05:06 PM by Bluebear

Joe the Plumber (no longer a plumber; first name actually Samuel) popped into our town yesterday evening to sell his new book and to remind people that he's still a plain and simple guy. Mission accomplished, on at least one of his missions.

About 11 people wandered into the rows of seats set up hopefully in the basement of a downtown Border's bookstore to hear Joe speak. Joe addressed them from behind a lectern and with a microphone, but that seemed unnecessarily formal...

It's fair to say Joe's appearance at Borders at 18th and L streets wasn't eagerly anticipated. People just kind of shuffled over when Joe strode in with Thomas N. Tabback, the co-author of "Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream." Annie Hickman, a young woman whom Wurzelbacher called "sweetie" during a brief Q&A, was browsing when the PA announced that Joe was in the house. "I'm missing pottery class for this," she said.

Lawyer Alana Hecht was curious. "I was upstairs reading 'Dreams From My Father,' " Obama's memoir. "It's just fate. Who could leave when this is happening?" She and Hickman laughed.....

Joe replied that he believes "our American heritage is being torn apart" by flag burners, critics of the military, and those who mock Christian values. He expressed his admiration for patriotic immigrants, and said he dislikes terms like African American and Asian American ("We're all Americans," he said). For some reason, he concluded by saying, "America has always been a kick-butt, take-names kind of country."

Wurzelbacher was scheduled to speak and sign books for three hours, but the Joe Show was over in 55 minutes. Total copies of "Joe the Plumber" sold: five.

39. My favorite 5-star review (at bn.com)....
Posted February 21, 2009, 2:55 AM EST: I am so tired of these liberal terrorists who want to take my money and give it to black people. And that is why I am glad that there are people like Joe. Real Americans who don't need education at fancy schools, who don't need a license to perform their trade, who don't even need to be named Joseph to call themselves Joe. America has been taken over by socialists, and it is time to take America back. It would be a very different place if Joe were in charge. A real country with real people who don't hate America and instead just hate liberals. No one would ever need credentials. The only thing that would matter is how much you hate liberals. You could pontificate about Israel without knowing anything about the middle east, or history or politics, or all the lies that those liberal academics tell you in school, so that you can just be a patsy and blindly swallow all the nonsense that the liberal media feeds you. If you can read beyond a second grade level, you can probably handle this book, and you should. Because you will learn what being a real American is all about.

And give it to black people. "Real" Americans proud of being uneducated.

The review you found demonstrates the average GOP voter beautifully.

Loved this 5 star review by Patriotic American...

51 of 54 people found the following review helpful:

I was startled and deeply impressed by the honesty and forthrightness with which Mr. Wurzelbacher dealt with his personal, human foibles: his failure to pay taxes, his dependence on welfare, the breakup of his marriage, and why he lied to Barack Obama about his income and his intention to buy a business. What a brave, selfless man.

Hahahahaha, just kidding! Not-Joe the not-a-Plumber is the perfect symbol of today's Republican party -- attention-starved, intellectually bankrupt, pathologically dishonest, blatantly hypocritical, inexplicably proud of his ignorance and bigotry, and utterly unconcerned with the well-being of his fellow Americans and the welfare of his country.

I predict this book will become a camp classic.

You got your Sarah the Witch Hunter who can see Russia from her house

You've got an old man -- who came awfully close to being president -- wandering around shouting at pigeons.

You've a drug-addicted lard-arse buffoon who is the head of the party.

Damn -- with a gang like this, we don't even need dope. You couldn't create a hallucination like the GOP no matter what drug you took.

75. The funny thing is that
most people who burn the flag don't really burn a flag. They burn something that is made to vaguely resemble a flag.

This is why anti flag-burning laws are so stupid. All you have to do is create a replica that looks something like a flag, but has only 11 stripes and 35 stars. That's enough to make your point and piss off the fascists, but wouldn't sustain any kind of a conviction, since you didn't actually burn a flag.

It's like burning en effigy of a flag -- and like burning an effigy of a person. If you burn an effigy of a person, you can't really be charged with murder.

57. Joe the Plumber at CPAC (MSNBC)
... Wurzelbacher .. was critical of current GOP leadership. "Personally, I don't see anybody as far as a leader in the Republican Party right now. They're afraid to say anything, they are more worried about being politically correct and their special interest groups. They are not worried about the American people. No way, no shape do I ever hear anything about that. They talk a good game, but I see no action." http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/02/26/1812082.aspx

WONKETTE ON THE BEAT
Live From CPAC: Not Even Conservatives Want To See Joe the Plumber
... Joe-the-Plumber spoke to 1/4 full room. It was pathetic. I got video of how fucking empty the room was. I tried to make an echo off the walls but I got yelled at. Video to come ... what a disappointment this is, and must be for Joe too. We all had such high hopes. I hope his publisher isn't kicking himself for paying for this and thinking about firing Joe or something like that. Talk about fucking up a guy's American Dream. Sheesh. I bet Joe could use a really big hug right now and a cup of cocoa. Or he might be thinking that America kicked his butt and took his name, I don't know. Well, anyway, "Mission Accomplished" Joe, I'm here for ya!

I can only hope movie producers are taking a hint from this reality check. Nobody ever really cared about Shmoe the Plumber, and i don't feel sorry for him. He was nothing more than a political tool used by John McCain, and he got to thinking he was hot stuff.
