"The little messages from Twitter painted a picture she had never seen before. It was the Real World"

Unfortunately most of our daily lives is hidden from people who care.

Real life happens between blog posts and emails and now there's a way to share.

Thanks to Twitter, it's possible to share short bite size updates about your life and follow the updates of people that matter to you, via the web.

:bounce:

Meet Carla.

She was skeptical.

After some of her friends couldn't stop Twittering about it, she decided to give it a try.

The little messages from Twitter painted a picture of her friends, family and coworkers that she had never seen before. It was the Real World.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? What are you doing and why do we care?

Why use Twitter?

Why? Because even basic updates are meaningful to family members, friends, or colleagues—especially when they’re timely.
• Eating soup? Research shows that moms want to know.
• Running late to a meeting? Your co–workers might find that useful.
• Partying? Your friends may want to join you.
• Defecating? It's important to be regular.

How does it work?

With Twitter, you can stay hyper–connected to your hyper-active friends and hyper-interested in what they’re doing. Or, you can stop hyper-ventilating and following them any time. You can even set quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted.

Twitter puts you in control and becomes a modern antidote to information overload.

At the push of a button you can free yourself from the information overload you signed up for, For Free!

29. That's why we don't "do" cell phones
and why we did not even GET an answering machine until they were almost obsolete:)

If I am home, and the phone rings, I'll answer it., If I'm not home, they can call back..or not :)

22. They also live in Columbus, Ohio
but still in mosquito infested areas. A local birder started a PROW nestbox project a few years ago at a nature preserve at one of our reservoirs, and now there's something like 150 or more breeding pairs here.

26. When I was volunteering on that SWWA project in South Carolina
75% of what we caught were PROWs.

Me and the PROW have a special kinship now. :D

11. I really don't want to be twittered every time one of my family
or friends decides to eat a bowl of soup.

I don't Facebook. I don't twitter. DU is addictive enough for one lifetime. At least we don't get into too much personal trivia here.

"So why is this so bad?

Well it’s partly down to the kind of people that are using the service. You see, twitter is very popular with the geek community on the West Coast, and has kind of spread out from there. So what you see on the site is a combination of techie messages, dot-com-geek-wannabes trying to get noticed and a whole load of stuff that’s so mundane it just makes you wonder why you didn’t spend the last ten minutes doing something constructive instead - like maybe shooting yourself in the head.

Call me old fashioned, but I really have no interest in the fact that Leo Laporte is eating his lunch, Cali Lewis is drinking a coffee with Splenda Flavor Blends, or even whose couch Kevin Rose happens to be trowing up on today.

You see, unless all your friends are on twitter the noise-to-signal ratio on the site is enough to make you want to go out and pull the legs of kittens to relieve the boredom."

Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 11:17 PM by omega minimo
is why some question the sanity of yet another level of hyperconnection that encourages people to think they must be reporting on their activities or checking on their devices every FUCKING second of the day INCLUDING WHEN IN PUBLIC AND TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO THE REAL WORLD AROUND THEM.

Annoying the hell out of other shoppers, amusing me when she went by saying to her headset, "I'm RILLY sorry to tell you this" (WHILE TELLING IT ALSO TO EVERY TOTAL STRANGER IN TRADER FUCKING JOES) and TOTALLY alienated her OWN CHILD THAT SAT THERE IN THE CART.

Don't try to tell us Twitter "is the real world."
