CNBC - "President's War on Wealth?"
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 09:26 AM by HughBeaumont
Yep, keep trumping up that whole "punishing success" meme. You know, because Wealth hasn't been waging a war on US for the past 28 years (or 400, depending on which historian you ask). NO. Not at all. In fact, I think we should just give everything TO the wealthy and . .. simply have FAITH that they'll reward us for our graciousness, just as they've done in the past 28 years (or 400, depending on which historian you ask). :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

Speaking of "trump", they had Wharton School Barbie Ivanka Trump on earlier, spouting incredible economic wisdom such as "You can't spend your way out of a recession" and "the government is simply spending too much to try and fix things". Well, Ivanka, this is what happens when you have borrow-and-waste presidents at the helm for 20 non-consecutive years, racking up 70% of the current national debt and waging reasonless, pointless and enormously expensive vanity wars. That Friedmanite bullshit that you apparently absorbed unquestioned at WBS has real-world consequences. Read a book or 30.

This station has all but rendered itself a farce.

7. Everything is always "WAR WAR WAR" with these people.
"War on Terror". "War on Wealth". "Class Warfare". "War on Christmas". "War on Values". "War on our Freedoms". "The Race War, it's a'comin!"

It's funny how the people who use these words the most would be shitting their Fruit-of-the-Looms if they were ever in a REAL war.

8. That was my immediate response
Of course the wars for the rich that kill the children of the poor aren't part of their myopic equation.

5. Idiots! High corporate taxes and low Fed interest rates are good for the economy.
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 09:42 AM by Odin2005
That's the monetary-fiscal regime we had until Reagan. It forces the rich to reinvest thier profits back into the real economy instead of into speculative investments. Ever since Reagan we have had low corporate taxes and high interest rates, which encourages speculative bubbles.

10. Geez, who let the freeptard into the building?
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 10:51 AM by HughBeaumont
First of all, Mr B&W Absolutist, you're under the mistaken notion that we want government to control all wealth. Seriously, WHERE do you people GET this crap? Hannitard? Limblow? NO one here wants the government to control all the wealth. Even in Universal Health Care, the government (via US) would merely PAY for it, not RUN it. They wouldn't get to make the choice of what doctor you can see or can't see . . . you know, like PRIVATE insurance companies do. :eyes:

Second, it FIGURES all of you freepers typically list the shining examples of Russia and China as the ONLY models of Socialism. Countries I SO revere? What, like most of Scandanavia and Europe, who I'm sorry to say completely kick the US's ass on health care, civil rights, quality of life, education, etc. Read a damned book sometime.

Oh you silly idiot, there is NO SUCH THING as a "self Made Rich" person.

Specific links and examples, please, on this ficticious "80%" number. The top tax rate is currently 35%. That's the lowest it's been in 75 YEARS. And do you think ANY of the wealthy are paying that? They have the best accountants and don't play by the rules we have to follow. And don't even sit there and tell me that they do. Read the book Perfectly Legal by David Cay Johnston, lest you think the wealthy you worship are working in your best interests and not their own.

ETA: Our mods are FAST. DAYUM. This freep barfed out every Forbesian talking point known to mankind. It was pretty laughable.

14. Really?
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 11:46 AM by RIFF RAFF
Well as long as there is INEQUALITY,no, everyone cannot be rich! Do you think the rich want everyone to be rich? They don't. Is that even possible? The opportunities to be rich,(at least not in countries like the U.S.) is not "there for everyone." THAT is a fantasy. And you haven't said anything I have not heard already. That's almost as simple minded as a 'get rich quick' person telling someone to sell their house, an invest their money, and then they'll be rich! No problem. People who think like this, seem to forget that not everyone has a house they can sell, and may not even be in any position to get one, for the next 30 years! The country is divided into different classes, for a reason. Upper class, middle class, and lower class. The upper class has to keep the the middle class, and the lower class down, in order to maintain their lifestyle, and to maintain their power. Notice that it is the rich, and not the middle class, and the lower class, who control everything? The middle class has to stay on top of the lower class, to maintain their lifestyle. But the upper class have the upper hand, over everyone. You always see middle class and lower class people in the streets, (like labor unions) picketing the rich, who control everything. How often do you see the rich picketing the middle class, and the lower class? All the rich mostly get upset about is their taxes. Things like healthcare, and stuff, don't really bug them too much.

Even if the rich do employ 90% of the public, etc., a lot of them would not even be wealthy if they didn't have people working in factories building their products, and stuff. Donald Trump can't build all that real estate by himself. Henry Ford couldn't build all those cars all by himself. That's why they panic when workers go on strike. Because if they are are not working, then they (the rich) don't make money. It's only "class warfare" when the wealthy are asked to make sacrifices, like everyone else. Where were the cries of "class warfare" when the rich was getting richer, and the middle class and everyone else was losing everything, and getting poorer? The rich should pay higher taxes, because they can afford it. They are not the ones losing everything. It is mostly the rich who hide their money in off-shore bank accounts. The middle class, and the lower class, are losing their jobs, and their homes, etc. They are the ones who need a break. The rich only make up a tiny part of the population. The middle class, and the lower class, make up the majority of the population. When the majority of the population is losing everything, and is not spending money, then you can prety much count on the economy tanking. John McCain has what? Seven houses, or something? I bet he hasn't lost any of his houses, because he couldn't afford them. Some people can't even afford to hold on the one house. Of course the uber-rich like John McCain think the "fundamentals of the economy are strong", because he probably hasn't been affected by the bad economy. He wouldn't know the difference. No wonder people like him, are so out of touch. By the way, not everyone wants to be rich. Some people just want to be able to keep their jobs, and survive without having to struggle so hard. Just more freeper garbage.
